Lollapalooza Lineup

I owe thanks to eros - he hooked me up with the direct link to the FG page.  I was refreshing it randomly all day, as much as worked allowed, and happened to get a luck hit.  I easily could have missed it.

Uh, xnwx - if your friend is a doctor, can't he/she afford full price?!? :)

wow your lucky you didn't get ip banned because i hear that people who were refreshing the frontgate site were getting banned.
Got one - actually got it via my iPhone while I was at lunch.  Thanks to sweetcell for the heads up.
wml7: I wasn't hammering, I was refreshing every 5 minutes or so. I have a job, doncha know :)  That's why I'm so grateful that I got through: I could have very easily missed the presale. It was over pretty fast. It's peoe who were refreshing every 10 seconds who got banned.
i see gotcha  ;D
LOL! Well hes here on loan from Vancouver for about a year or two. No clue what hes actually doing and if theyre paying him well. Then again - no clue if Canadian doctors make good money either.

Besides, if it werent for him I wouldnt have met up with a friend of mine from high school that I hadnt seen in 17 years, and I wouldnt have seen Tool. I guess that was my thank you to him :)
did you watch the "best of bonnaboob 2009" on fuse?  i heard it was a fuck of a joke, which is defined as worse than a mere joke.
early bird tickets for next year's festival are now on sale, $175 until the supply runs out.  that's the same price as this year's early birds.  http://www.lollapalooza.com/tickets/index.html

what's with lolla selling tickets this far in advance?  my theories:
1) next year's festival will have something big that they need a lot of cash for, upfront.
2) they'll invest the money for 6 months and make some extra coin that way
3) they're hoping that a percentage of people who buy tickets this far in advance won't attend, therefore they can sell more tickets.
4) the organizers are raking in the money while they can and will be disappearing to some third world country with the cash.  there will be no lolla 2010.

thoughts?
I think it is way simpler than any of that - they have a captive audience now who just got back from the festival, presumably had a great time, and may be more inclined to make an impulse buy for next year than they would be in say, six months.

How would this work exactly? How would they know how many of the early orders weren't going to come so they could then print up and re-sell that number of tickets?

eww eww eww.  i'd be willing to give SG a chance, but seeing green day once was enough and i don't need/want to see gaga at all.

considering what coachella, sasquatch and even bonaroo have on offer, things aren't looking good for lola.  almost has me excited for APW.

I think this lineup is the indication that we have reached "peak festival".

The headliners are too past-their-prime touring veterans and the third is Florence & The Machine.  All of this supported by three days' worth of mostly third-tier nobodies.

Too many festivals competing for the available talent.
… and too little available talent.

(yes, i'm old, now get off my lawn)
Two possibilities

- they want to be on the cutting edge with real up and coming artists along with a few well known headliners and become the premier festival in America

or

- they knew it would sell out talent unseen so they figured they could put out a cheap lineup with a couple of token headliners, thus maximizing profits

Since it's now Live Nation running the show I'll go with the latter.

I didn't realize Live Nation is running it. Well, there you go. And frankly, I totally concur with your assessment.
