joanna newsom

I usually need something catchy or crunchy in my most favored music, and the new one doesn't have a lot of either, but it is pretty fascinating. I figure its exactly one month until the 6th and I shows so that's about how long it will take to hear all of it.

Oh, and my tix arrived yesterday. Result!

Ha, 9.2 on Pitchfork!

Downloaded it this morning, took about three songs in to hear a melody…  :-\

Ha, a 4 on Popmatters!
i see pitchfork gave joanna newsom a 9.2.

but what did the album get?
I downloaded the leak friday but have yet to get around to it. Started it soon after downloading it and got side-tracked. After hearing four songs, I was missing the 50's Disney cartoon voice. She sounds…too normal?

This meme is starting to get old. We get it, Joanna Newsom is pretty, therefore everyone who listens to her must be doing it purely for that reason.
i thought bookerT's witticism was hilarious.  well done!

well thank you!

man, tough crowd…
I'm pushing through the album now (I'm guess I'm on disc one now), and it's pretty and all, but I just don't find it nearly as interesting as her first album.  Granted, it's just the first listen, but I could listen to Milk-Eyed Mender daily…this and Ys just don't have as much staying power, I don't think.

Still looking forward to the show, though.  Gotta imagine we're not getting much from her first disc, but I'm thinking with the orchestration and venue, should still be pretty good.
I've been surprised how much I like the new one, and I never got much into Ys or Milk, though I didn't try that hard either. But I play disc one of the One on Me quite a bit and dig it.
I didn't know Joanna Newsom was fly.
hell yeah she's fly. to whit:

unfortunately there's also the samberg factor:

I was sampling a bit of her new album on my pc, and my wife remarked that she was surprised that I would be listening to Tori Amos.

Ah, another classic Rhett post consisting of "for reasons I'll never explain, I/Celeste was listening to music we don't like and here's our snarky comment we came up with hours later but are going to act like we came up with off the top of our heads."

lol @ur wife
Any comments on last night's show? I'm especially interested in general times of doors, opening band, Jo-Nu, etc.
Maybe he was seeking inspiration for his next political character or just hoping to hobnob with Rahm Emanuel, but either way, "Saturday Night Live" cast member Andy Samberg was spotted roaming the White House halls Monday morning.

The White House didn't responded to Yeas & Nays on Samberg's agenda, or whether he was able to meet with his muse Emanuel, but we do know that he's staying at W hotel. Our spies spotted him in the lobby Monday morning.

Others can comment and will probably say it was transcendent, but I don't.  It was fine.  It was the right venue for her, but it certainly was not worth $30 plus fees for me.  Even though the opening "band" (which consisted of two guys with one guitar who want to be a more melodic Flight of the Conchords) was done around 8:30, Newsom didn't go on until almost 20 after 9, even though all of her band's gear was already set up and the harp was tuned before 9.  I have no idea why I had to sit there for 45 minutes waiting for her.

She was fine, but not all that interesting live, and the way she contorts her face whilst singing is very distracting if you're close enough to see it.  Better to just listen to her on CD, in my opinion.
Hahahahhahahahahaha that's such a Joe comment.
