NEVER DOUBT US AGAIN!
thanks for coming out, y'all. i'm still wiped out, but it was a great day. luckily for all of you, seth cut me off before i got to do my hank impression.
I must say, there were quite a few converts in the crowd around me. I heard lots of, "I can't believe I haven't seen these guys before." From some of my friends who are definite going to see them again.

Anyone recall the exact phrasing of Justin Jones's "This song is about farming" line? It was an unexpected hilarious/awkward moment, at least for me….. a strange-for-the-setting intro to a song.

Oh damn if they had unleashed the "Pury Rock Fury," the crowd would have been in total awe. Neil would have had to be more "Careful with that Mic" before the "Electric Worry" and delivered the "Big News" as the audience found some "Spacegrass" before "Escaping from the Prison Planet"
okay I'm done…

Highlight for me was Trouble Funk. Those guys really know how to put on a show. Also loved seeing the Slickee Boys and Bob Mould for the first time. And it was cool seeing Tommy Keene and the Fleshtones for the first time in 25 years.
Really didn't like Clutch at all. Probably would have left during their set if I knew the Furs weren't playing. I think Henry Rollins did a great job as the MC.
Really sad no Psychedelic Furs. Anybody know why they canceled?

Redsock, you stayed to the bitter end? Saw you heading down to the backbar mid evening but you were too far to say hi.
Yeah, we stayed till Trouble Funk finished. Went to the backbar to scope out the better beer and catch a breather. And, well, it was Justin Jones playing. Can catch him at Iota once a month…
Sorry I missed you and the other boardies. Randomly caught Bombay in passing, and saw Lily napping in the side room upstairs, but that was about it.

Ahhhh… sorry Nothing personal. I SHOULD CLARIFY. I know there were people with real reasons that couldn't make it, The 'donk' thing was more for the shiftless lazy people that take free, especially something as awesome as last night free, for granted when those tix could have gone to others that would have killed to have been there. :)

Crowded but not packed. Heard that there were a lot of no shows from people who won tix. What a bunch of donks. Their loss…
No one is more sorry than I that I had to miss - I had car issues and no way to a metro so donk that.

And big standing ovation for not just Tommy Keene, who was awesome, But his Nephew when he started playing the drums. How old was that kid, 14 or 15? He was WAILING! Kid definitely brought the thunder.

Dunno if Keene's nephew is 15 or 16, but I think he's finishing 10th grade.

I had one of the best times of my life
I cannot express what a joy that was to have all of these great people in one room in the mood they were in
I am talking about the performers, the staff and…most importantly…YOU
I know it sounds awfully corny & contrived but the 930 Club is really all of you people, and you should be very proud of who you are, because you are the community that we all talk about here
thank you all for a wonderfully magic night, even if you weren't actually there
but…for those who were…well…you know what happened

Per Ted Leonsis' Blog:
9:30 Club 30th Birthday
June 1st, 2010
What a fun night and congratulations to the 9:30 Club for 30 years of great local entertainment.
Henry Rollins was there.
Ted Leo rocked.
Clutch wailed. They were loud and proud.
Dave Grohl surprised folks with an appearance and did Bad Brains songs. We met him and he is a really great guy and nice person.
And Trouble Funk closed it out!
We all had a great time. Thanks Seth Hurwitz who played drums with the Flesh Tones and then on ?Play that Funky Music White Boy? with Trouble Funk.
Trouble Funk ? GoGo music. Wow!!! Set that way back machine on stun!
Rock on.

disappointed … that Trouble Funk played the same song for 45 minutes as I waited to see if anything else was happening.
Dude, that's go-go. DC style. As the Washington Post ad used to say, if you don't get it, you don't get it…
Anyway, thanks to Seth for a great night. It was a generous act to throw a party like that for free. It brought back some great memories of the best parts of my lost youth.

Thanks, Davyboy, appreciate it :) I am sorry I missed it, but very happy others had a great time. (hope to see Tommy, Dave and Ted at one point or another!) I even missed out on my TF commemorative ticket. ;P Hoping there will be another soiree again one day! (selfishly hoping for a weekend/non-holiday due to traffic/festivities). Seth, you did a really great job and sounds like you had a great time too. Thanks again & to everyone for opening up your "home".
Oh - some great descriptions in the article by Chris Richards, by the way.

I'll have the full set up tomorrow.
These are great– we can see ourselves in the TF audience shot. Any chance of purchasing 8 by 10s or so?
