So we're almost half way through the year and I think its shaping up to be a pretty strong year musically imho

Good to great efforts from old favorites like Spoon, Ted Leo, The National, New Pornos, Massive Attack, Besnard Lakes, Apples in Stereo, Black Keys, Basia Bulay, Emma Pollock

Very good new (or new to me) stuff from The Soft Pack, Hot Chip, Broken Bells, Holly Miranda, These New Puritans, Beach House, Tallest Man on Earth

The only real clunker so far for me has been The Whigs

Any other good stuff people would care to recommend?

I don't even like the Black Keys and I like their new album.  I have the new National, but haven't listened, yet.  My two faves of the year that I've heard are Two Dancers by Wild Beasts and Gorilla Manor by Local Natives

"Two dancers" is 2009.

hahaha
well, if you didn't hear in 2009, then it's not ;)  kidding.  I swore it was 2010, but I stand corrected.
The Nels Cline Singers' new one is pretty great too. It and Brothers are currently my top two for the year.
My nine faves so far, unordered:

Charlotte Gainsbourg
Watson Twins
Corrinne Bailey Rae
Title Tracks
She&Him
Dr. Dog
Band of Horses
Free Energy
Janelle Monae

bought them all at my local Starbucks.
Knowing me, I'll probably forget half of what I'd like to include, but here's a go for now.

The Radio Dept.
Ceremony
Soundpool
Malory
Air Formation
Inkraktare (yet another Dean Garcia project)
Zaza
Cotton Club
Exit Calm
Highspire
Insect Guide
Stellarium
Screen Vinyl Image (Remixes)
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Thee Piatcions
Foxtail Somersault
Team Ghost
Between The Cities Are Stars
Dead Leaf Echo
Death Valley Sleepers
The Brothers Movement
Riverrun
The Black Ryder
Serena Maneesh
93MillionMilesFromTheSun
The Dolly Rocker Movement
Telltale
Club 8
Monster Movie
Dead Mellotron
Daniel Land & The Modern Painters
I'm From Barcelona
Kyte (except that I think it might be end of 2009)
Korine Conception
Elemental Gaze (but may be 2009)
Massive Attack
Sennen
Ringo Deathstarr
Jonsi
The Prids
The KVB
The Lucid Dream
Whatever Hippie Bitch

Also, I haven't heard any of it yet but I've been hearing that the latest Black Angels material is very good.

Killsaly, what's the name of that band… Yawning Man, or something like that? You know who I mean.

My favorites this week are Zaza and Cotton Club.
Have you heard the new Hammock? It came out Tuesday I believe.
^ No, I haven't. Saw a link for it somewhere but just haven't taken the time to do so yet. Gotta be in the right frame of mind for Hammock. Love them but they are best for very laid back moments.

Guess it would be safe to add it to my list. Consider it added.  ;)
so NSFW, your job and all your fellow employees will explode if you dare play this anywhere near it!!

On Your Horizon, the Turkish post rock band?
^ Nope. It's one of Perry's friends. Some guy who is in a couple different bands that are all good but one in particular has a name with Yawning, or something like that, in it. In fact, Perry was supposed to send me some of his music for my station but he never followed through with it. Guess I should go nudge him about it.

I still need to check out that Turkish band you suggested. Usually Turkish bands are sort of a mix of Metal and Post-Rock but more Metal than anything. They love God Is An Astronuat! Oh, yeah, they have a new one out too that needs to go on my list.

I'm kind of getting into French Psychedelica lately.
I don't think I've been impressed with too much this year.  Not sure how long some of these will stick around, but here are some things that stood out:

Daughters
High on Fire
Love is All
Male Bonding
Roky Erickson (at least the half I've heard so far)
Spoon
Surfer Blood's "Swim"
Wooden Shjips (released this year, but has mostly older stuff on it)

Disappointed in the new Hold Steady and Caribou albums.  And yet again, Broken Social Scene has me wondering why everyone shits their pants over these guys.
New Caribou was disappointing to me, too.
stuff i've enjoyed this year in no order:
tallest man on earth
spoon
new pornographers
gaslight anthem
the national
wale
lcd soundsystem
she and him
beach house
the best coast singles
new deer tick comes out next month too
I kind of like the new Caribou

also,
Foals
Gayngs
Black Keys
Gorillaz
Moon Duo
Daughters
Tape Deck Mountain
Sleepy Sun
Magic Lantern
Steve Mason
Wait there is actual new music still being released?  I'm so deep into the various 60s and 70s Soul/Funk/R&B re-issues I haven't noticed.

Obviously the new good stuff is

Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings
Dr. Rubberfunk
The on going Ash A to Z series
Liked the new De Novo Dahl

Gotta a bunch of eMusic stuff to catch up on including Christian Prommer and Chumbawamba
i went to a "music store" in a mall this evening . . . and saw the prices they attempt to charge for music.  how do those places stay in business?
^ High end mall rats and Beamer guys who think that chains are good things.

Either that or they are fronts for the mob using their crappy over priced stores to launder money.

I don't get it either, especially in this day of Amazon and tons of other much better and more affordable offerings.
great stuff.
