Seriously? If anything, I thought it was too quiet.
^And the crowd was fucking lame.

Predicting that Boris will rank up there.

Can't wait for that show…
I cannot believe no one has mentioned The Deftones
There was nothing alarmingly loud about them when they played here.

Years back Hatebreed played on Easter sunday.  They had The Crystal Method's engineer mixing them.  I mixed the first three bands, and I thought it was loud.  He came and showed me a whole new level of loud, even with tired ears and ear plugs, he was hurting me.
Hatebreed or Hatebeak?  Cuz that parrot can shred!

I've seen them a half dozen times. Five (98-04) were not too loud; the other (2000) was punishing. Of course their shows are hit-or-miss as well.
Buzzcocks at the old club.

Maybe the loud show I attended of theirs was at the Norva.  At my age and all the chemical experimentation I did in the 60s/70s, details sometimes escape me.
Is no one going to mention that pummeling Iron & Wine show?!?! All of that bass and distortion and white noise…totally killer.
Some of those mentioned – Raconteurs, BRMC, Stooges – were loud alright, but any of the Dino Jr. shows I've been to were louder. I always bring my ear plugs for J, even though I'm prolly gonna be deaf soon anyway.
Dino shows are some of the loudest for sure but they're also well mixed/balanced.

That BRMC was anything but.

I still don't think i've ever experienced anything like Mogwai at the Ottobar, though.  It was like that Memorex ad.

any mogwai show. . .

the show that was probably the most damaging to my hearing was sugar "file under easy listening" tour at liberty lunch in austin.  halfway through the set i couldn't tell what songs they were playing anymore. . .
Sugar, April 30th, 1993…the Beaster tour at the Aragon Ballroom. I actually think that was louder at many moments than My Bloody Valentine a couple years ago. I'll never forget that wall of a PA they had. Very intimidating. When they started "the Act We Act" I immediately could feel it slam all of the organs in my body. That's pretty much the definition of "loud".

Exactly :) I thought they sounded fantastic for the 2004 show when they played for 2 1/2 hours.
I think it's safe to say one of the loudest shows NOT at the club would go to Jucifer.
they're up there…
it's fun not wearing earplugs at their shows…

Another one for the unnecessarily loud column:
I caught a couple (well parts of a couple) of the thievery shows in 2009. The first one sounded fine but the 2nd was one of the bassiest mudfests I've ever heard.
