And they're apparently featured in Time this week:

Damnit, I knew I should have jumped off the bandwagon last week. At least none of y'all know me.

Well, I just returned from the Dupont Olsson's…apparently, they neglected to put a CD on hold for me.
There was one CD on hold for another person and they had the "Darts of Pleasure" EP. After listening to the helpdesk staffer apologize, she put me down for a copy to be transferred from another store…so it may be in tomorrow.
I just did a "reserve a copy" for Borders. If they have a copy in stock, I'm getting it there and someone can PM me for my last name to up the Olsson's copy.

[Isn't that the store that was getting 8 copies in today?]
Holy crap; they're not playing here any time soon, so I'm in no rush, but this is crazy….
Which Borders?

Hey, I went to the in-store and bought her cd based on seeing an ad for her in-store in the City Paper, as well as a tip from someone on the Fulks Board.
If I had known she was getting hype, I probably would have been contrary and avoided her ass.

She's an excellent piano player, is clever with her wordplay, has a finger on the pulse of poular culture, a good jazzy singing voice, has cool, diverse influences, and according to Groudskeeper Willie, is totally fuckable. Plus, she's a bit sarcastic and snide. What's not to like?

And I made a post about Franz Ferdinand like three months ago after hearing them on WOXY. Markie, Kurosawa, Skonster and Jaguar all had the EP and thought highly of it.
So I imagine all those on this board can say that they bought the CD after hearing the band on WOXY and KEXP and after getting a tip from someone on the 9:30 board.

I tried the Borders on L Street and the one near Pentagon City, since they had the CD listed as "in-stock" on their website. Unfortunately, neither store has a copy on hand now. So, I'm back to waiting on Olsson's.
Just checked Best Buy's site (I know, I know) and the stores in Tenleytown, Pentagon City and Potomac Yard are listed as having the album on hand.

Her mannerisms are really odd to me – I mean like medical condition odd. And her voice inflections are not pleasant at all. She sounds like she's falling off a very high wall or having a confusion breakdown or lost in a very complex and intimidating forest and trying to communicate with the animals.
I saw her sing two songs, and it was unpleasant, entirely.

Sounds like you were at a Tori Amos performance.
I did find that I liked her in-store appearance much better when I wasn't watching.

Originally posted by bunnyballs:You hit it on the head – I find Tori highly unwatchable as well - all that weird gyrating on the piano bench, like she's got a community of ants in her pants she's trying to smush while singing. When you're not watching her, she's okay. Maybe Nellie's the same, but the songs seemed pretty simplistic to me…(then again, I was distracted by the thought that her eyes might roll backwards into her head at any moment…)
