Concert Posters

Someday you'll be able to say that about the shows you're seeing now. The best possible poster scenario is to have one from the incredible show you were at .
I tried to get a poster from the Hives show a couple of years ago, but it is sold out.

I did get one from a D Plan show I attended.

My understanding from reading the gigposters forum is that it is the venue that commissions or authorizes the posters. Perhaps some aspiring graphic artist who reads these boards wants to see if the 9:30 (or Black Cat) would be up for a gig poster series??
i've got one poster from a show that i attended. . .it's a kuhn from a tool/flaming lips/failure show in austin in 1994. oh, and the white stripes were selling numbered posters of the show at the smith center which i picked up.

here's a picture of the tool poster: http://wednesday13.morpheus.net/tool.jpg

Wow - that Hives poster would be great - I was there too.

I think you mentioned a Modest Mouse/Shins show from a few years ago. That's another good example.

An artist at Flatstock told me that they also sometimes just make posters for bands & venues they like. It's a much more risky venture as you're hoping someone pays you. The preferred approach is to do this only for a while - make a name - and then work on a commission basis. Which is then a sweet deal. They get paid to create - the reproduction is paid for - they get copies - and can then sell those.

That's definitely one I would like.

I had this Black Love era Afghan Whigs T with a silhouetted klansmen hanging from a tree. Strangely, no one else liked it
;)

Cool shirt.I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Was it just the pic or was there writing as well?
Here's a rendition:
Whigs T

They sometimes pop up on ebay.
saw this whigs poster and thought of you grotty - quite pricey, even more so when it has some water damage - will be interesting to see how much it goes for

Good stuff - I think I saw that one hanging @ the RnR Hall of Fame.

Check out this Whigs item debuting on ebay:

Pretty scary. Not sure I want to see Curly or Dulli nearly naked each night though as I lay my head down to sleep. It may be a Dulli imposter however, as I've never seen him that thin.
No. How cool – I will definitely get there – will have to be this weekend! Actually, will have to be tomorrow! I'll be there.
no but I'd like to
i went last weekend. it was pretty interesting, some good posters (les savy fav always wins). there was a trail of dead poster i liked alot too. its just a room with posters on the wall.

the people "working" there ran up into a loft when we walked in. they stayed up there the whole time, or i might have bought something. dunno if they were making out or stoned.
Is there much stuff for sale?
yes. they were all for sale, there was one wall completely covered, and there were a few stray ones on the other two. kinda pricy, but there is good stuff there.
Some nice posters, but I wasn't crazy about the installation. One wall has 4-6 posters, well-spaced; but the other wall has about 50-60 posters all on top of one another. I guess I see the reason for this display. 1-the gallery itself is tiny, like 12'x10' or so. 2-this is how they would be displayed at a booth if you went to a poster show. But I think the posters are more effective with space between them.

Many of the posters are for sale, but they are asking twice the price that the designers charge.

All in all, I give it a thumbs up.
Ditto to GGW. There are some really cool posters though (but when you have that many, you're bound to have a number of really good ones).

Pollard, there's a good Mountain Goats poster.

I'd get a couple, but I'm going to check with the artists first. $40 - $60 does seem to be about double the price, though I noticed some were numbered and had very low series numbers, and some had artist signatures, which may vary in value (more than I know in this genre…)
this is gonna be my next purchase - anyone come across any cool new posters?
