Originally posted by Laura Zepam:i'm as big of an xtc fan as the next and yes in a sea of punk and prog rock they came off as orginial, but surely they didn't invent all by their lonesomes edgy pop songs with keyboards. garage rock bands were doing that in the 60s…
Originally posted by kosmo vinyl:For me most new shit is just that: shit. What comes out today just seems oh so very derivative as to be almost a complete ripoff of the past. Radiohead is an unknown quantity, but I read somewhere that their sound was rather derivative of XTC. So, because of that they are Band-X…as in Band-X sound just like Radiohead/emo wannabees.
well BRMC, Death Cab for Cutie and Artic Monkeys have little if anything to do with Radiohead… and quite frankly the whole radioheadesque bandwagon has simmered down.
a more valid argument can be made for the emo/screamo clones or the bands ripping on joy division.
BTW, XTC WAS orignial, at least the first two albums…until they fired Barry Andrews. Then they went and got all Beatle-y.
and if it would get boring if they made the same record over and over again, they themselves were somewhat bored when they released the dub versions of Go2..

Originally posted by Mike Rohsopht:I'm pretty sure it is Dupek. Couldn't you tell from the flood of threads the other day?
i am lost now, who is Laura Zepam? i thought it was dupek…..now i am confused.
And now he's apparently the host of Blind Date…
That plus I kinda like the sound of Roger. Roger as you might be aware, is Cockney slang for 'shag'. And Lodge means dwelling, as in Shaque dè Amore, but I loathe having to explain myself.

Hogan Knows Best
say what you will about the "originality" of The Strokes, The Decemberists, Belle & Sebastian, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand when they broken on to the scene they stood in stark contrast to whatever crap was being blasted from the airways or having "mass appeal". Which is likely why their careers will last longer than most unless of course the drugs, alcohol or record company do them in first.
They're still around?
Hey Rob_Gee,
