HFStival 2011

Pavilion is *maybe* a quarter full (and that's excluding the loges, they're closed off). Gin blossoms were rather impressive. Clutch about to go on, can't wait. They're giving away hummus & pita chips by the truck-load - official snack of HFStival 2011.

Nice…. got $20 PAV seats this morning, heading up shortly.
Clutch were awesome. Neat to see a backline of kids, wives and grandparents. This was obviously a family event.

Pavilion is essentially GA, sit where ya want. Floor looks to be about 2/3 full. Hummus pushers are at the California Tortilla stage, far side of the lawn. Don't forget to put some tasty toppings on it. Garlic and pine nuts is my fav
combo :)
Wish I had been able to get home in time to see Clutch.

Can't talk the wife into going now that we've missed them.
nothing better than color commentary . . . with hummus.

floor was packed for dr. dog onwards.  dr. dog was pretty good, but i had higher expectations.  flogging molly whipped the place into a frenzy.  josh got a shout-out from FM's vocalist and was pointed out in the crowd - i swore he blushed :)  we left just as the avett brothers went on.

i was thoroughly impressed with the talent on the local stage.  as soon as the band on the main stage finished, a local band kicked off on the second stage and played right up until the next main stage act went on.  lloyd dobler effect, MDR, justin trawick were all good (didn't care too much for funkmnkys and pasadena, but they were awrite).  lionize was by far the best.

lots of stuff was being given out, more so than freefest.

the timing for this festival was unfortunate.  attendance suffered because of freefest last weekend.
son of a bitch, I wanted to go to this but couldn't and I also couldn't even get rid of my GA ticket
I was only there for Dr. Dog through the Avett Bros, but wow, what a crappy ass turn out. I guess I can't expect much with the line up, but the place was EMPTY. We walked right up to dead center, third row pav seats and stayed there all night.

Had never heard Flogging Molly, but they were a nice surprise. Great live band.

we must have been right beside each other for dr. dog and FM - third row dead center is exactly where the missus and i were sitting.

Not a fan of the Avett Bros?? They put on a helluva show…

I'm thinking this should be the last year ever for that festival, I heard they only sold 3k tickets.

yeah what the hell sweetcell, why did you go home before the Avett Brothers? Lame
maybe he had the shits from all that hummus.

3K!?

If that number is correct, how was it not cancelled? There is no way 3k in ticket sales was enough to even come close to supporting a festival with that many acts.

That's what some worker at the festival was saying and by his account, it pretty much looked like that in the stands. Looked like a highschool gymnasium crowd at a girl's basketball game.
i think that 3k number is a little low, i'd put it closer to 5k.  during FM center pav, R:C and L:C were about half full and there was a decent crown on the lawn.

but it was definitely a small crowd and it must have been a money-loser.  had they booked it any other week except the one immediately after freefest, they would have done better.  weather didn't help either.
No question having the FreeFest the week before had an effect on the HFStival turnout. That said, I actually liked the music more for HFStival. Lionize was terrific, Flogging Molly was more energetic than anyone who played FreeFest and The Avett Brothers were amazing. Of course what can I say about Clutch, they are just hands down the best live band I've ever seen. Good times.
