I am amazed that Jimmie's Chicken Shack is still together.  I saw them open up for the Violent Femmes at Johns Hopkins 16 years ago!

I wouldn't really say they're still together, since it's just the singer as the only original member left.  I'm not even sure he's even working on new material.  I remember the first time seeing them was out in the parking lot of RFK when I went to see Pink Floyd for the Division Bell Tour…

I'm just really shocked they've got a higher billing than CLUTCH!!  Let's look at this and wonder which of these two local bands has had greater success, and still putting out music.  No need to even mention that Clutch has all original members :)

What about the Gin Blossums?  They A.) Have more recognizable songs (at least three or four) to the general public than all of the other bands combined and B.) have sold more records than all of the other bands combined.  Putting the most popular mainstream band so far down on the bill….that IS "alternative."

yeah . . . but springsteen and pink floyd have sold more than all of them.  would you put them ahead of the dr. dog?  i mean come on, dr.dog is changing the landscape of all things music.

Dr. Dog is actually the best band on that bill.
I don't see any Latin rock on that line-up. I, for one, am deeply offended. How did they get a permit!??

I'd put them in the parking lot.  Someone needs to sweep up and take care of Porta-Potties.

Actually…I was thinking the same thing, then just assumed HFS had reverted back to it's original format.

Great take. Love the Gin Blossoms, although seeing them at MPP won't be the same as seeing them in a small venue.
Without Doug Hopkins the Gin Blossoms were/are awful.

Nobody cares.
Shouldn't you? You just said you loved them.

I didn't come around on the Gin Blossoms until about four years ago, so I don't really give a shit about Doug Hopkins being in the band or not. I hated the Gin Blossoms when I was in eighth grade. The Empire Records song drove me nuts and did nothing but remind me of those awkward middle school moments. Then I saw some of their live shit on Live Music Archive and decided to give them another chance, for some reason. What a great decision that was. New Miserable Experience is a timeless album and the GB's are awesome live. Robin is a great showman and you can tell the band appreciates still being around performing great shows. I'd pay $40 to see them at the State Theater again if they came back there, but I'd much rather see them at 9:30.

Wrong. Disagree.
Pavilion is *maybe* a quarter full (and that's excluding the loges, they're closed off). Gin blossoms were rather impressive. Clutch about to go on, can't wait. They're giving away hummus & pita chips by the truck-load - official snack of HFStival 2011.
