It was fun. She was from out of town, visiting my neighbors. Never saw her again.

HEY ATOMIC, BRIAN_WALLACE, AND RHETT: WOULD YOU GUYS LET YOUR KIDS READ COMIC BOOKS? WHY OR WHY NOT? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE SAGE WISDOM!!!
You didn't ask me, but yes. My son is 9. After learning to read, he wasn't really taking to it. I got him some comic books to get him interested in reading, but he wasn't into them at all. He eventually read Treasure Island on his own and that got him into books, problem solved.
As long as it was devoid of misogyny, homophobia, violence, princesses and had strong female characters…so I guess the answer is no, right?

She was a nice person who I'm still friends with, but she unknowingly gave me chlamydia. We were set up by a mutual friend in college. I last saw her maybe a dozen years after we had broken up. My wife is Facebook friends with her now, and always says "I wish she lived around us, I know we'd be good friends."

My wife and I realized at the begining of our relationship that both of us had every copy of Adrian Tomine's Optic Nerve. I doubt there are that many people that own all of them. I guess that is why we are a good match. I used to read comics by Peter Bagge (Hate), Julie Doucet, and Dan Clowes (Eightball).

Sure I would. Why not? Hopefully they would read something more intellectually challenging than Superman or Batman. As a kid I read Archie. Good stuff.

Yeah. I like Batman.
Was Death of the Family the one from like a year ago, where you think the Joker's going to finally get down to killing some people (and didn't you think he removed Robin's face or something) and it turns out it's some mental gamesmenship or something? That was seriously stupid. Batman in usually seriously stupid because he should just kill the Joker so he wouldn't kill in the future. Which is stupid.
Come on. Honestly. In "The Dark Knight" who were YOU rooting for?
I think "The Dark Knight Returns" is seriously overrated. Unbelievably preachy. "The Long Halloween" is alright. And that's about it.
Are you sitting down, "DeathFromAbove1979?"

Brian
I didn't understand the "gamesman" angle of it, because they end up killing Robin in the next arc… Which makes the ending of DOTF even more stupid. They made him just about as sick as I've read and they just shit the bed with the ending.
Dark Knight Returns is good, but my favorite book/story goes to Hush. If you haven't read it, I'd suggest picking it up. He shits all over Superman for about the first half of the book. So good.
Also, come on, I consider The Joker my favorite super hero ;)
i told him that idea. clown prince. brian doesnt believe anything i say on here anymore. anymore?

And that is why I will take Brian Wallace over James Ford any day… Brian Wallace will insult you over your views of some musician or other..James Ford does it about what kind of parent you are. That kind of thing should really be off limits… If James Ford or anyone said that to my face I'd beat the crap out of them….
it should NOT be off limits. there is such thing as being a bad parent; and parents should be adult enough to face that fact. this country has some weird obsession with giving parents the right to do whatever the hell they want with their kids, because the parents' freedom is more important than a kid's needs. it isn't.
Part of being a good parent is questioning yourself and your partner over your actions and decisions. Part of making good parenting decisions is seeing others (and yourself) making a poor decision and trying to do better for your own kid(s). I just hope others at least share at least that much sentiment.
In a sense, I agree with Hutch to an extent. Giving someone unsolicited opinions regarding parenting, even if you're doing it out of actual genuine concern for the children, well maybe that's a bit too socialist in nature. Maybe as a former teacher, I'm just more sensitive (too much so?) to people making bad parenting choices.

I was just joking around. I have always wanted kids.
It is like I don't even know you…
Also this thread is ridiculous. People who want to talk about parenting are not the same people who want to talk about comic books.
Did any of you comic fans start Red Rover Charlie? It is a tale about the end of the world, from the perspective of three canines. it is written by Garth Ennis (of Preacher, soon coming to AMC as a show and then will be really part of our pop culture) and is a lot of fun. It, like most of the books I read, is geared towards adults.

Talking about parenting is one thing.. of course that is not off limits…but there is a line…criticizing people because they spend money on a pricy concert ticket instead of saving for their kids college without even knowing the person or their situation is ridiculous.. saying a person is a worse parent because their kid is in daycare is offensive…
and I don't know who you are surrounded by… here in Arlington and with my friends in the area having kids all I see is child-obsessed parenting… kids being shuttled from one activity to another…some kids being taken to 4 or 5 events on one weekend day!..parents freaking about what preschool their kid gets into..i just got back from the storytime at westover public library and you could not fit one more kid or parent/nanny in the place… i don't believe that in the history of mankind we have ever seen such an all consuming focus on parenting… i don't say its a bad thing or a good thing but in general in our society today it is all about the kids.. .even the whole "when you have a kid your life is over…" mantra people are told when they're expecting….
