Favorite New Band of 2006

I didn't mean to imply that Van Hunt was a new artist. Rather, he put out and R&B album in 2006 that didn't suck.

Try Corrinne Bailey Rae. Though it won't make my top 10 of the year list, it was a good debut. Also the Van Hunt album was good.

I actually heard Corrinne was hot. Been meaning to check it out. Van Hunt's been around for a minute though . . . . .
Pollard's rule is no good. Basically, you could say anyone you want. For example, I started liking My Morning Jacket in 2006.

if it was band first heard in 2006 I would say Heartless Bastards
agreed…I would add to my original post

Imogen Heap
+/-

and

The Burning Leaves and
The Automatic

altho I've only heard a few songs from the latter two…
Essex Green also opened for Delgados a couple of years ago at Black Cat

Well if my rule doesnt work I am not sure who I would choose but most of the bands in this thread dont count then

I am sticking with my rule though and adding Deadboy and the Elephantmen, I am pretty sure any band I have listened to this year at least existed in some form last year
Beirut
Wolfmother

Those are the only two worth mentioning. Voxtrot was last year.
Deadboy & The Elephantmen are good, as someone mentioned.

This is a bit of a cheat, but I'm going to go ahead and list Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton, as well as Jenny Lewis With The Watson Twins. I know Haines and Lewis have been around, but neither released albums until this year. (Well, Emily did, but without Soft Skeleton.)
I'm really digging Soccer Team.
The 2006 Van Hunt record is great and this was the first year I'd heard of him. I have his earlier release but haven't given it much time yet.

Middle Distance Runner
Alice Smith
As Fast As
The Sails
The Hard Tomorrows
Voxtrot
The Apparitions
The World Record
The Keene Brothers :)

I was thinking the latter…
Islands for me as well.
I heard The Ambition at the Detroit Cobras show and they were really good. They only have a small single out but I love it.

Wolfmother so far is tops of my list along with Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins.
Wolfmother.
Nobody.
el perro del mar
Ghostland Observatory
Langhorn Slim

of course this raises another issue and Venereal Bede will probably slap my wrists for taking the thread even more off topic but did people think 2006 was a good year for music? Me, maybe I'm getting old but I listened to more music this year than I've ever listened to and I thought alot of it was a bit 'eh'……

I had chalked it up to me getting older, but I found almost nothing exciting about music this year
Really into two bands on the label "The Social Registry"

VietNam
Psychic Ills
