Favorite New Band of 2006

As of right now, I'd go with Islands. Though that may change once I hear the Swan Lake album when it comes out…

Other than that, that's it. Hip-hop's in a drought, R&B's sucked for a while (Sade, where arrrrrrrrreee you?), and other than some songs here and there rock sucks as well. Sad ain't it?????

birdmonster (hands down!) - the fact that 2 of the guys are UCSB graduates doesnt hurt at all either :)

My list of bands I've first heard this year would be far longer.

Try Corrinne Bailey Rae. Though it won't make my top 10 of the year list, it was a good debut. Also the Van Hunt album was good.

I actually heard Corrinne was hot. Been meaning to check it out. Van Hunt's been around for a minute though . . . . .

I'm enjoying The Black Angels, and The Mother Truckers.

The Big Sleep…they played before midnight on New Year's Eve, so technically I first heard them in 2005, but I didn't listen to their EP until I got home, so it was 2006. :D

Candy Bars…I still listen to "Enough to Choke a Cold Air" frequently.

i saw them 7 years ago at galaxy hut. so take THAT. but whatever, it doesn't have to be a band that "broke" in 2006, right? in that case, for some reason i never really listened to the saints before this year, and i have no idea why. those first two albums are pretty much perfect.

fair enough. . .the years are all running together for me, but i know it was not 7 years ago. . .after looking at their releases, it must have been 2003 when i saw them.

it just sort of reminded me of how fountains of wayne got nominated for best new artist based on their 3rd album.
