It also looks like a sucker deal where you get to stay if you work for some cause while crashing there.
The details look very Nordic in nature. Maybe it's a 'save the polar bears' kind of cause home base.
Or maybe the Russian ambassador was called home for an extended period of time and left his kid to mind the fort only for some wild, weird extended, rip roaring, tear the embassy apart adventure. The kid has run out of it's trust fund or has been cut off except for communications so that the parents can keep in touch with him/her. After they sold all of the valuables to keep the party going, they had to resort to roommates to keep the party and other household expenses up.
