Hoya - why can't you guys just revel in the fact that the Georgetown program is headed in the right direction and it should be quite a good year? This should be enough, I'd think.
Local Fans should just try to root for their team and stop all of the hating/inferiority complexes when it comes to the local squads (e.g. GW fans slamming GTown fans, GTown fans slamming Terps fans, and on and on).
I'm sick of it. For the record, I grew up a Terps fan, then went to BC. I've got no particular love for GTown, but I'm glad to see them back and doing well. Plus, as a DeMatha grad, I'm going to have to start paying more attention to the Hoyas, since Freeman and Braswell are on the way. Freeman, by the way, is incredible.

at least baylor can play non-conference games this year (watch them tonight against gonzaga!). and apparently we are picked to finish 7th in the big 12 (ahead of mizzou).

my thoughts on the local rivalries: georgetown owned DC in the 80s and early 90s, then maryland from the mid-90s or so until last year … it's just nice see a sea-change like this going on, especially because we were down for a long time, and there's bound to be some revelling
the lock-down we have on the local recruiting game (previously dominated by the terps) is pretty crazy, i think we have the top 2 DC-area recruits for 07 (freeman and wright) and the top 2 for 08 (braswell and clark) … and it's a big deal to finally break into the dematha arsenal, your old coach and our old coach didn't exactly like each other, and i don't think we ever got a recruit from you guys (at least in the last 25 yrs or so) until Freeman next year, so that's good to see … i'm convinced that we'll struggle a bit this year and really take off once Freeman comes in next year, everything i've heard about him says that he's the real deal
just out of curiosity, do BC fans realize how much hatred exists for their program throughout the Big East after their defection? i don't take it as personally as some people did, but there's a lot more animosity between Big East teams and BC than there is for our local "rivalries"
i hope Thompson and The Sweaty One can put aside their differences and get together for a home-and-home series very soon, UMCP and GU need to play each other

Actually - SI has started doing that a lot recently - they did the same thing with the NBA preview. Depending on where you live, you either got D.Wade, Bron Bron or 'Melo.
And Hoya - I'm with you that the local schools should just put aside the b.s. and play each other (a rotating tourney like the Boston Hockey Beanpot would do the trick - with GW, GM, GTown and MD. And I don't want to get into where to place the blame for that - because every single school has a different version of that story as well.
As far as the whole BC into the ACC thing - I was never much in favor of it, and it was clearly a money grab by BC, though the administration will always deny that. However, just remember that Syracuse was just as ready to jump, but the state government in VA put pressure on UVA to make sure that VT was the other school besides BC and Miami to make the leap. While most BC fans realized the Big East would hate them immediately, it was became clear to the ignorant-of-hoops-hockey-loving student body when BC held the same record as U-Conn (I believe) and had beaten them, and the conference presented the regular season trophy to them in our last season in the league.
I'm glad to see that it has worked out all right for the Big East in terms of the football situation. And, for the ACC, same as the Big East - I don't like the extra large conference format for basketball. I'd much prefer the home-and-home setup for regular season games. But, due to the $$$$ out there for the BCS football bids, those days are long gone by …

P.S. I forgot to mention that it makes 0 sense for BC to be in the ACC - since there is no school between UMCP and Boston. Its dumb, and I hate it mainly because I grew up such a big Terps basketball fan and now I have to deal with that divided loyalty thing far too often.

definitely stings … no doubt about it, a bad loss, but it's only november and we're still working out the kinks
the terps are actually looking pretty damn good this year, but the fact remains that georgetown has and will p3ned them in local recruiting for the foreseeable future (with incredibly inferior facilities), and that's one of the best barometers for the overall health of a program
