none of this matters anymore. i apologize for being a snit of a snot with you relaxer. this thing with iran is getting pretty scary.
tragedy means change
A bike rider died while I was holding his hand. I watched the lights go out in his eyes. This was two years ago in Adams Morgan; dusk, rush hour. I was the first pedestrian on the scene. (Yep, to those who might slam me for holding his hand, I have advanced first aid training.) Since, I have NEVER felt at ease driving in DC…around other cars, pedestrians or bike riders. Human beings are unpredictable: Accidents happen. The driver of the car who hit him left the scene. The bicyclist was dressed entirely in black with no helmet on. The driver may have been unable to see him, but the driver was a true asshole for leaving. I never knew if they caught the driver/no police officer ever called me to follow-up.
I am now accutely aware of how many blind spots my car has, and how reckless some bikers are. It isn't worth "making your point" no matter which side you're on.
This week's accident happened on a street with a newly marked, separate bike lane. Even under the best circumstances, trucks/suvs/and most passenger cars have blind spots.
This is a tragedy for all. If you value your life, watch out for the other guy no matter WHAT you're doing. For those who can't accept sharing the road and sidewalk with other "assholes": move to Mars.

What's there to be scared about?…Like Obama the messiah said, Iran is just a little country.
Hereâ??s the truth: the Soviet Union had thousands of nuclear weapons, and Iran doesnâ??t have a single one. But when the world was on the brink of nuclear holocaust, Kennedy talked to Khrushchev and he got those missiles out of Cuba. Why shouldnâ??t we have the same courage and the confidence to talk to our enemies? Thatâ??s what strong countries do, thatâ??s what strong presidents do, thatâ??s what Iâ??ll do when Iâ??m president of the United States of America. If you have the quote please let me know, because all I find when I search for it is a bunch of right wing sites saying Obama called Iran a little country that isnt a threat.

From the NY Times…and they don't come much more liberal than that.
The attack by Mr. McCain was prompted by comments Mr. Obama made on Sunday in Pendleton, Ore., where he urged engagement of the nationâ??s foes and said that â??strong countries and strong presidents talk to their adversaries.â?
â??Thatâ??s what Reagan did with Gorbachev,â? he said, adding: â??I mean, think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela â?? these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They donâ??t pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us. And yet we were willing to talk to the Soviet Union at the time when they were saying, â??Weâ??re going to wipe you off the planet.â?? â?
Mr. Obama said in a Democratic primary debate last year that he would be willing to sit down, without preconditions, with adversaries like the leaders of Iran. He has since sought to draw a distinction between such engagement by an Obama administration and his personal involvement as president, saying the latter would require the Iraniansâ?? meeting certain benchmarks.

Iran is unique to Cold War-era Soviet Union in that its politics are governed by religion. But its foolish to think that the current dick-waving between the US and Iran even remotely compares to the Cold War, which involved numerous other countries, was a driving factor in causing two American wars, was propeled onward by each countries' space programs, and was a major concern/fear in people's lives (in the US and USSR anyway).
Think about all the dramatic shit that came out of it. The Berlin Airlift, Korean War, the Red Scare/McCarthy, Bay of Pigs, Berlin Wall, nuclear proliferation, Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam, Ronald Reagan, Olympics boycotts, etc etc etc.
And THAT is why we need a Bicyclist's Bill of Rights in Washington.
Who's arguing? I just quoted the messiah, who not only stated they're tiny countries, but that they pose no serious threat, which from todays events prove how wrong he is.
he didnt say they dont pose a threat
Originally posted by 47 YEAR OLD VIRGIN:So if you quoted him, why are you so conveniently leaving off the moneyshot of the quote. He said Iran does not pose as big of a threat as the USSR did. And he's right, ya daft punk.

back to the initial thread….
there will be a ghost bike ceremony tonight.
Originally posted by Relaxer:I would actually disagree with that. He's mad enough to push the button. I never thought the soviets were stupid enough to actually do it. So he's a bigger threat than the USSR was, imho anyway.

Besides…just who the hell is the USofA to tell who can and who can't have nukes? They have them and are the only nation to use WMD's in anger……aren't they?
what obama said is:
â??Iran…weâ??re going to wipe you off the planet."
can we get back to bikers now

how many people are killed in dc everyday?
does anyone give ten shits about them?
are their ghost vigils where they took their last breathe?
are there hipster shrines being erected in their honour?

I went to this. Was anyone else on the board there?
Walkonby, I'm surprised you called a memorial to a cyclist that was killed while riding to work a hipster shrine.

This is the stupidest shit you've ever written. Down the street from me there's a lamppost with a pile of rotting teddy bears and paper cards. It's been there for at least a year. Someone was killed there. I'm sure there are similar memorials all over DC. So yes, people give ten shits about those killed.
Would you call that a hipster shrine?
