just take the metro back from rfk, 1000's other ppl are its safe. you can even get through the gates for free, just follow another person, its to crowded to get caught.

Or, a lot of the buses that go by the metro stop right there at RFK take you to Union Station. I did that one year because getting on the metro was impossible. Was great – I coulda taken the red line, but wimped out and went with a taxi… ;)
That would be the D6 bus, which has a horrible schedule on the weekends but will get you there nevertheless.
I would actually recommend the 12-block walk to the Eastern Market/Barracks Row area watering holes. Marty's has a great patio and a killer (hah!) veggie burger. Let the crowd pass you by and spend your bucks in my hood!

The 96 also goes by Union Station on its way to the Stadium Armory Metro station.
