i think it's both.  spotify is the worse for paying artists, so there was this low-lying, background dislike of the service.  the neil thing is the proximate cause of the current brouhaha but it didn't come out of nothing.

Neil is hardcore about vaccination. I have no doubt he is taking a stand for vaccination.

That's correct. Joanna Newsom has refused to be on Spotify for years. The other streamers, yes. She's an example of someone pulling her music because the reimbursement is inadequate; not Neil. People are conflating issues.
