I'm with you on the Stooges, their set at Randalls Island in '04 was my favorite show that year. The Sword's overhyped asses are playing with Clutch in Baltimore for NYE, catch em now before there's no money to be made in metal and they jump off to another trend.
err…umm…

i heavily second Radiohead (in DC), Manic Street Preachers, Bjork…

would maim/manually graze someone with a bullet to see:

Portishead (!!!)
Mars Volta again (slim chance)
Sneaker Pimps
De La Soul
EPMD
My Bloody Valentine (somehow – please)
Primal Scream
New Order
Filter again (whenever Army of Anyone gets put aside)
Smashing Pumpkins (if their reunion is legit)

i know that i'm forgetting some people – namely UK ones b/c i've given up on so many bands ever touring or returning to DC. arrgh.
Tragically Hip
Jens Lekman
Daft PunK [that's a stetch]
Shpongle
AIR
The Juan Maclean
Shpongle: might wanna check the title of this thread… i'm fairly sure that simon has never played DC. getting him, raja and the required musicians for a live shpongle set is nearly impossible (only been done once or twice, only in japan i believe). having heard two shpongle dj sets, i'd certainly welcome another one as the next best thing :)

Postishead: great band that i'd LOVE to see, but have they ever played DC?

AIR: we'll have better luck there as they'll be touring in spring 2007 (but again, have they ever played DC before?)

Tragically Hip - yeah! and since we're at it, how about sarah mclachlan? been years since i've seen her (and yes, i'm assuming she's played DC in the past - fairly safe bet)

Primal Scream
I thought the Sneaker Pimps played in the last year or two. Primal Scream was there for the XTERMINATOR tour with Kevin Shields. Would love to see them again.

Air has been here at least twice (10,000 hz tour and Talkie Walkie tour). Both times were great (AMAZING sound) and I'm looking forward to seeing them in 2007 (hopefully at 9:30 again).

Nick Cave
this has to happen if he tours with grinderman. that album just leaked and it's sounding very, very good. the last couple bad seeds shows at the club have been among the best shows i've ever seen. the last few times he's come around he's done only a few east coast cities. we need him here in d.c.

has anyone else seen the movie he wrote, "the proposition" with guy pearce?

holy shit!!

a) best and most desperate western i've seen in a long time
b) one of the most violent non-asian movies i've seen in a while

really great stuff, and even more surprising to see the screenplay was written by nick cave

i thought it was good, but not great, perhaps due to unfairly high expectations. my fave movie is "dead man," another atypical western with a score by one of the all-time greats, and "the proposition" was no "dead man."

cave writes a lot of shit. i read his book "and the ass saw the angel," really faulkner-y in the whole southern gothic and you have no idea what's going on for pages at a time way.
Really? Have you seen "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" ? That movie's way better than "The Proposition".

it's actually up next in my blockbuster queue, looking forward to it … i just loved how absolutely desperate "the proposition" was, it felt like all these people were constantly on the brink of survival, and the director did a great job of capturing that … and the performances were really top notch …

haven't seen it but I'm not surprised it was written by nick cave…..many of his songs involve a lot of violence going back to his days with the birthday party, and like BookerT said his book has some seriously weird shit in it…..

Nick Cave played the 9:30 Club with Neko Case not too long ago…
