1505 new cases in VA…second highest amount since Covid19 pandemic began

Expect a rollback soon in VA
Yep, Northam all but warned it was coming. State is actually doing pretty well (relatively) aside from Hampton Roads which apparently is one giant maskless COVID orgy.

welp the Guv decided to do something about that
Northam announces new coronavirus restrictions in Hampton Roads
the region — which has seen a 672% increase in its seven-day moving average of cases since June 9

, saying people under 40 are largely contributing to the increase by frequenting bars and restaurants and gathering for birthday and graduation parties.

2015 new cases today in Virginia

Not sure what happened…we were averaging about a thousand and previous record in May was about 1600

That was a bit of a shocker. I had noticed we had high 700's for Wed and low 800's for Thurs, so was hoping we were decreasing. Three day average of 1200, so perhaps today's total is a correction for Wed and Thurs undercounting.

Still, disappointing.

Sharp Increase in COVID-19 Data for August 7 Due to Data Backlog From Previous Two Days
Today, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) announced that the COVID-19 data numbers that will be posted on Friday, August 7 will contain a significant increase due to a data backlog from earlier in the week.

Today’s data will indicate 2,015 new cases.  This figure includes information that should have been reported on Wednesday and Thursday of this week as well as the regular numbers for Friday.

Late Thursday, VDH’s Office of Information Management, which helps manage VDH’s COVID-19 databases, identified and rectified the technical issue, which was a system performance configuration.

To follow the number of new cases by day of symptom onset, please refer to the graph, “Number of Cases by Date of Symptom Onset.”

So what are we tracking here…as Virginia is kicking butt when it comes to deaths compared to MD

Deaths by Covid
VA-2352  (pop 8.6 mil)
MD- 3612  (pop 6 mil)
DC- 593    (pop 0.75 mil)

MD +776 cases +8 deaths
VA. +1101cases +11 deaths

MD 715 new cases
VA 1216 new cases

I actually think overall MD has done a better job

At the beginning medical professionals didn’t quite know how to save people’s lives..treat patients….state’s didn’t know as much regarding controlling the spread

Look at NY! Over 30,000 dead..a way higher % of cases was dying in March

So to just look at those early death numbers and extrapolate that one state did a better job because of a lower %/residents rate seems foolish

If you want to know how your state is doing look at how they have been doing the past two months with the benefit of experience

I mean this is the same stupid argument Trump makes about the US doing better than Italy, Spain, Belgium! Well duh but they went first! We were supposed to learn from them
Well in the last few weeks we see Virginia pulling away from Maryland

VA is now just about doubling MD in terms of new daily cases

Not sure why but 96 deaths just reported for VA..a rather shocking number

Maybe a backlog due to weekend? Still there have been other weekends and VA never got above 60ish daily deaths
I hope it’s just a typo
Not a typo..a backlog unclear from when
