William DuVall from Madfly is doing the singing duties. From the reviews I've seen, he seems to be the man for the job.

There was only one man for the job and he's dead. They were great when I saw them at the Clash of the Titans tour many, many years back.

Was it the show in Baltimore?
I guess I saw a different band as I thought they were terrible, Slayer pretty much stole the show that night.

Portland, Maine. Anthrax stole the show on that night.

I agree that Layne isn't really replaceable. It would be like having the Smashing Pumpkins without Billy Corgan, or Radiohead without Thom Yorke. They all have their unique vocal tones which help make the band what they are.

While Layne Staley had amazing vocals, there was an incredible ammount of harmony between him and Jerry Cantrell. Some would argue that Jerry actually had the better voice, but not the same stage presence. Cantrell wrote the vast majority of the music and lyrics for the band. When I saw him play solo shortly after Layne passed they did several AIC songs and sounded amazing.

I saw Cantrell back in like 1999 or something and he gave Staley a run for the money. I don't know why, but lately I have a lot of sympathy for bands that lose their self-destructive singers who seem to gain godlike status. If those bands want to close a chapter on the band in their own terms, that's fine by me. I have no issues with New Order playing Joy Division songs. If INXS wants a reality show to replace Michael Hutchence, more power to them. If the replacement singer sucks that much, the fans will let them know and that will be that. Van Halen fans might have felt betrayed after DLR, but Sammy Hagar still drew in tons of fans. BUt that third guy was where they drew the line…funny how some things work and others don't.

Again, I think something like Chris Cornell trying to sound like a pissed off Zack doesn't cut it either…but Scott Wyland doing Axl does work :)
I'm still wondering what the hell was VH thinking by bringing in Gary Cherone from Extreme! Extreme was a good band…well it was all Nuno on guitar but never would I think his vocals would work for VH material. That's when VH lost my respect.

I bought presale tickets thinking this would sell out and -2 weeks later- it still hasn't. Maybe do people not consider them the same without Layne??

So who is going to be singing for them? Lukas or Dillana?
