What did the bass player say when he got up to the mic?
Who was the guy they brought up on stage?
Man that was a great show…

The bass player was dedicating the next song to Ian Mackaye and all the music and bands he grew up listening to.
I can't remember the name of the guy they brought up on stage. It was the same guy that M.I.A. brought up on stage.
I was really hoping that Diplo would've been with M.I.A. The alternate DJ held his own pretty well. She started off a bit bumpy but got better as the show went on.
LCD Show was mostly good. Disappointed that they didn't play "Disco Infiltrator," but I was surprised when they played a song that I had on an old house mixtape from the mid-90's.

Diplo was there last night, I saw him by the sound board. I heard that he didn't play because something is going on between him and Maya (good or bad, don't know…) The guy that went on stage was some random fan out of the crowd, he was on the metro last night…
On a side note, did anyone buy a poster last night, I designed them and let LCD keep all the profits. They sold out pretty quickly. Awesome show last night.

Whats up everybody! Last night's show was…amazing! Not only did I get to see two of my favorite bands, but they bought me on stage and I got to dance my ass off!!! YEAH!! Oh, and my name is Ahmad (was I rambling at the mic?..hehe), hope I didn't look too stupid, and I hope I didn't bog down anybody's experience, but it totally rocked my socks! I mean, he was playing the guitar on my shoulders and shit…awesome…lol

I thought LCD Soundsystem was great, though I have to admit I would have like to hear Disco Infiltrator and a few others from the CD. I have to admit, I liked all of the other songs they played, especially the last song before the encore. Tribulations was fantastic!
MIA did nothing for me at all, I still don't understand all the gushing over her by cirtics. Overall, very good show.

I enjoyed the candid nature of the show (broken strings, etc.), and the intensity.
It was also very cool to see the wide range of ages at the show. Guess that's the power of internet marketing.
I'm a casual fan with a lot of interest, so not hearing Disco Infiltrator helped me pay attention the "other" songs. A lot of the material benefitted from the live performance. I've a whole new respect for a lot of the songs.
I could have done without the Courtney Cox moment, though. ;)
Can somebody post a set-list? Are there any tour plans rumored to bring LCD back to this area anytime soon?
James Murphy gives me hope for music. Whatever happened to the Rapture?

it went something like this:
beat connection
on repeat
(1st broken bass string)
give it up
tribulations
movement
(2nd broken bass string)
daft punk
losing my edge
slow dive (siouxsie & the banshees cover)
yeah
encore:
one or two songs that i didn't recognize.
it's all about perspective, but from where i was standing (floor, center about 15-20 ft back from the stage)…best, most energetic crowd i've ever seen at 930.

i gotta say, i was really looking forward to seeing m.i.a., but i found her set highly disappointing. i have to disagree with whoever said the DJ did an admirable job of replacing diplo. i thought the beats were boring and generic. as for m.i.a. herself, i was expecting something a lot more wide-ranging and different, but it was really no better than most electro-clash. i've read all this fascinating stuff about her life and ideas, but it didn't translate into anything substantial to me. the hype machine is in full effect. i hate to say it – and it will probably make me sound like an asshole – but if m.i.a. was a white chick from chicago, there'd be no hype at all (this is purely on the aesthetic tip).
granted, knowing diplo's skills, if he were DJing, it likely would've brought out the best in her. despite that, i still found her vocals weak. the best part of the set was the animation (which she makes herself). i suppose i was just expecting something more pancultural and more reflective of her sri lankan background.
on the other hand, lcd soundsystem were excellent and far exceeded my expectations. the drummer was pat from an early incarnation of les savy fav, and that guy can throw down. i really dug the minimal musicianship, and that little moog the dude had in the back, and james murphy's vocals were impassioned if a bit cliche. nice to see him wearing a can shirt, and they captured the can ethos better than most who claim them as an influence (it's all about the minimal rhythms/polyrhythms).

Yep, the crowd was definitely a highlight of the show. All those people jumping… it was great. Didn't seem like people on the balcony were dancing much though.

It's funny how many times I've unsolicitedly heard: "I just don't get the appeal?".

MIA is one of those artists who's best enjoyed if you shut down your mind and just go with it. I'm pretty sure her musicianship and vocals wouldn't stand up well to close scrutiny. It does, however, make me feel good and my feet move. It's too bad she's been over-hyped. She may not be all that, but she's not as bad as people have been making her out to be.
Of course, one has to ask how much of her sound is truly dependent on her DJ. Would have loved to hear how Diplo would have changed the sound.
Was surprised at the amount of people who left before LCD started. I had lots more room move and see. Loved the set. Great energy. The songs are so much better live than studio. What a testament to the band's abilities.
How bad would this show have sucked if the lineup had been reversed? Supposedly they were both headlining….

back from the dead (on loan from NYC)…
hell of a fun time last night. came for MIA, definitely stayed for LCD. wouldn't have worked the other way.
oh and Diplo would absolutely murder that other punk – whoever he is. having seen MIA with Diplo in NY, I can safely say that dip's what's really good. saw him at dragonfly after the show and he tore into some of that dirty south (and those favela breaks) he loves so much – would have been great to hear him bang that shit at 930.
and snail, good to see you again. let me know when the psych-kraut-metal-core is at the warehouse and we'll do it right.
oh, and ahmad…you made me proud to be back in DC last night. plus, if megs is in your fan club, you're doing something right.

walkie, you confirmed what i had suspected. i would definitely give m.i.a. another chance if diplo was backing her up.
good to you see again, and the next killer warehouse show is green milk from the planet orange, a japanese space rock/psych/prog band, next monday, june 20th.
and i also agree that lcd is better live than on record.

Thanks for the luv guys! Glad you enjoyed my little impromtu dancing…hehe. Yeah, that last LCD song was "Jump Into The Fire" by Harry Nilsson (first featured on the "Songwriter" album). I thought M.I.A. was damn good, actually, even though I thought that LCD was way better. The section I was in (front center) was really highly energetic, but when I looked back into the crowd, it seemed like it was kinda dead. I wish more people would just let loose and f*ckin dance instead of just standing there looking dull, and it seemed that way towards the back of the club.

ahmad i wish you were my friend. you're so energetic. i got some video of you dancing with m.i.a. are you going to bloc party? hope so.
i thought m.i.a. was ok. the crowd really made the show. everyone in the balcony seemed dead. i was up there too, but i was dancing while others just stood there. i too was surprised to see so many different people there.
