Alright who's having the countdown for this shindig?? Anyone going to any after parties? Where is everyone staying?? I'll be flying in Thursday and checking out The Black Keys that night. Friday night I got tickets to see Gogol Bordello and the Ting Tings. Just found out Ting Tings cancelled so now only Gogol which I wanted to see Ting Tings more so. Saturday night need to figure out what after show I want to go to.
Lollapalooza Roll Call
Ill be there - heading there on Thursday night and getting in around 10pm or so. Staying at the Silversmith Hotel. Going to the White Lies after show at Empty Bottle on Saturday night.
trying to listen to all of the bands now before then to see who I really wanna see. My only real priority is White Lies, The Enemy and Radiohead.

impressive that you didn't notice the 3-page lolla thread that has been going for months now :p
i'm flying in thursday AM, was going to visit family but now it turns out they won't even be in town. i currently have two reservations for hotels, need to cancel one.
my current planned schedule looks something like this. however, i tend to do a bad job of sticking to a plan at festivals… too much going on, all sorts of unexpected surprises to stumble upon, etc. biggest conflict right now is NIN vs. kanye. trent & co have the better music but i'm seeing them do a solo show at the end of the month, and i haven't seen kanye's stage set-up which is apparently worth peeping.
i hope it won't be too hot.

im leaving friday morning. dunno where im staying yet. maybe at sweetcell's hotel ;)
What are the prices of the hotels you guys booked? I'm staying at Hostel Chicago because I'm a cheapo and didn't want to spend 200 a night at some hotel. It's like 140 bucks for all 4 days. Not too shabby.
im pretty sure sweetcell mentioned this in the other thread but they got rid of 2 stages. Rather sucks as now each stage will be quite a bit more crowded (or so I'd imagine).
Originally posted by wml7:a hell of a lot more than that - but im going with a friend and we're splitting costs. plus we wanted to stay somewhere nicer, so its worth it for the both of us. this year we're trying out a different hotel than last year - so im curious to see how it is. last year we had an incredible view of the river.

Well I think the problem is that the stages are like miles apart or I could be wrong. I've never been to Lolla but with Bonnaroo I was able to catch every band possible and I dont think the stages were a mile apart. Anyone with insight on this?
using http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ i estimated that the distance between the bud light stage's soundboard (i.e. middle of the crowd) to the AT&T stage's soundboard is about 0.6 of a mile (or 1 kilometer, for you metric/military types).
i have no problems walking and spent last year walking from one end of lolla to the other all day long. i didn't think it was that bad but to hear some people complain about it, it was a death march so YMMV (pun intended). by sunday afternoon, your legs will be tired.

That's going to be my goal try and catch every band that I can. There are a couple I'll stay through out the whole set but others I might come and go. We'll see. Hopefully weather should be nice.
Another year, another Lollapalooza. I'll get there Thrs. Will know by next Tues if I have room alone; then would want to find someone to split the 155+tax closeby room.
For the first time I don't have after-show tix; may do Second City comedy type late night theater thing, dancing, or even a movie.
Glad the schedule grid now lines up geographically with the stages; hoping there's still $5 drinks/food.
Weather–it's been incredibly good overall the past three years. No jinxing anything.

I'm going to go ahead and grab a tix from Stubhub for Saturdays Bloc party show at House of Blues. Anyone know how far house of blues is from grant park???

Getting there Thursday. Staying at Silversmith Hotel. Blowing off early Saturday sets for Cubs game. No after parties for me, would rather check out regular bar scene.
Originally posted by wml7:HOBs totally suck. they are the ugly strip-malls of live music, with a dose of tacky amusement park thrown in. they try really hard to make each one a tribute to rock'n'roll… and fail. i dunno, maybe if they didn't try as hard to be "the house that ROCK built" it would be easier to overlook the cheeseball factor. i will say that they do tend to have good sound. maybe the original HOB had something going for it, but as a chain it rates a D-. that being said, i'd still go if there was a show i really wanted to see, i just wouldn't be excited about the venue.
So House of Blues sucks???
