worst show you've ever seen at 9:30?

i love how two people mentioned u.s. maple. so predictable, especially on this board of (mostly) squares. i saw that tour in boston – i wasn't going to go because i thought pavement sucked by then but i got a free ticket – and the crowd booed during maple's set. i didn't take too much offense considering the amount of whitecaps and yuppies who just discovered pavement. maple's set made me a fan and they are one of my favorite bands right now, especially live. i thought pavement blew that night, except for the three pre-brighten the corners songs. and i love everything pavement did up until and including wowee zowee.
one of the main aspects of u.s. maple's performances is their antagonization of the audience, if the audience doesn't "get it". they're kind of like the locust in that regard.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the suckage known as the Vines.
uhh I went to go see the juliana theory awhile ago.
I swear the lead singer was lip syncing. and he was wearing cowboy boots. and he danced like jesus.

juliana theory was the "local band that opened for everyone" in pittsburgh for awhile. so terrible

Saw Rusted Root a few years ago and their were plain awful. Saw a show at hte old club with Oddfellows local 121(yeah, named after the REM song) or something like that. they blew too.

I agree. The Vines definitely takes the cake for me. I went expecting it to be decent at best and left with the impression that Craig Nicholls was mentally retarded. If their intention was to butcher their own songs beyond recognition, then mission accomplished.

aww…i thought the fatboy slim show was one of the best shows ive ever seen at 930.
Dave Navarro solo. Simply the worst.
the sea and cake.
then again, not many people were there to be bored to death by it…

I have a Paddy Casey cd, it's pretty eff'n good.
He should have been thankful he was opening for a well known band in front of a sold-out crowd, rather than chastising the crowd. You're an unknown opening act. Get over yourself.

I know I'll get slammed for this, but John Cale (opening for The Creatures) - I believe it was the summer of 1998.
I just couldn't stand him.
Also, Jill Sobule (opening for Lloyd Cole). Though she did make me laugh. :)
The worst *experience* at a show at 9:30 was The Cult (can't recall when that gig was). The band themselves were fine - it was the audience that was psycho - full of testosterone/high-wired guys (I believe the ratio was something like 6 guys to 1 girl at that show) - including a guy who burned me with his cigarette and then said, "Why did you put out my cigarette?!"
Cheers

He wasn't all that bad :D I particularly liked The Creatures encore of Venus in Furs that he got up onstage for.

The first that come to mind was Filter. Sooo trashed that Rich couldn't even sing. I think he hit one note all night.
Another would be Retardobot <sp> Just awful opening up for Genitorturers. I do recall Josh having to escort them out of the building for lighting a cardboard box on fire on the stage.
Finally, Echobrain. Jason Newstead's project of a jam band/didn't know what the hell they wanted to be. Just terrible which was a shame, since the CD wasn't too bad.
And there's nothing wrong with emmet swimming shows and lots of drunk people! :) It made a drunk Sam dive off the stage and land on his collarbone before he worked there LOL

The only time a concert turned me from fan to non-fan. It was horrible. HORRIBLE!!
