If you want intestinal problems and a bad case of gas.

well, the question was, "close by" "bite to eat" and "not too expensive"…fits the criteria.
there's always food at the club…
I love The Saloon, a few doors up from Ben's. Great grilled cheese and reubens.

Polly's is also great, but that place got expensive for what it is…. Both, though, are on U Street east of 14th.

hell yes
There's a place across the street from Ben's Chili Bowl called "Duke's Lounge" or something like that (I'm sure on the Duke part) that's reasonably priced (entrees around $10) that was very classy actually and quite good. I would reccommend it highly.

Has anyone been recently? I used to enjoy it, but the last two times there were horrible and expensive. I'd rather go to lauriol plaza its food is unquantifiably better and it is cheaper.

Lauriol Plaza is TERRIBLE. Save yourself some time and money. I would suggest Oohs and Aahhs, which is on 10th and U.

Been there several times, no problems.

Maybe your body just can't take good food :D

Ditto on the Polly's part. I'd go for beer, but not to eat. And it's a shame, they had my very favorite turkey burgers for a while.

Lauriol? I'm surprised….though makes for a good midday hungover brunch spot (no lines between 2 and 4 – waiting an hour for that place is insane).

How so?

I guess I have only been to somewhere around 10 different mexican restaurants in my life. Lauriol so far has been the best and one of the least expensive. Sometime you have to wait, sometimes your waiter is very busy, otherwise…….?

I try and find times when it wont be busy….. If there is a wait I just go and get a corona and some chips and salsa and then enjoy the scenery.

Sometimes it is worth the wait to sit outside, relax, polish off a pitcher of Margarita….

I have told you this before, you think it is good because you dont really like mexican food, you like their version of it, it is probably better than most Mexican places in England
there is always the mcdonalds around the corner…and other food chains down the street…
there really isn't any "good" mexican restaurants in this area. . .now, if you want south or central american. . that's different.

lauriol plaza satisfies my mexican food craving.
Umm,

Well off the top of my head I have locally been to Guapos, Rio Grande, Tia Queta, alero and el Tamerindo. I guess I have been to a whole load of other non-local Mexican themed eateries.

I think Lauriol is the best of the ones I have been to.

Why what do you think is better, other than guapos?
Cactus Cantina is my favorite – same owners (and menu, I believe) as Lauriol. I got no beef with Lauriol, it's the insane waiting times, etc.

I used to love Rio Grande….haven't been in years, though.

I have a feeling Pollard's going with a whole "the only good Mexican I've gotten in tne U.S. is in Austin and this little place in ____fill in the blank for obscure place_______

no, i pretty much like any mexican food, Guapos was my favorite, but they got worse starting about 5 years ago, I dont currently have a favorite, i much prefer cactus cantina over lauriol for various reasons other than the food

rio grande is about the same as cactus and lauriol

best i have had though was in san diego, have never been to mexico
