Most divisive bands...

I have never met a Korn fan, let alone a fan of any of those other bands…….
Hey, that just sparked a thought – where the hell has flawd been?? Must be spring break, and his family's off to Disney…..

R.E.M. (especially post-Green)
Really, you think people proactively dislike late R.E.M.? I think it's more a matter of thinking they no longer matter, "it's over," they're just mediochre. Not that I agree, but I haven't met the person who's vehement in hating those later albums…

Britpop.
See, people say they hate Britpop, but likely have differing definitions of what is now an ever expanding descriptive 'genre.'

Radiohead, yes; britpop, I don't think so….
Hmmmm, good topic. I know I express strong opinions, but the reality is I just like to overstate my point to get a bite out of you all.

HOWEVER!

Bands/performers I absolutely can not stand to listen to.

REM (early/recent, it doesn't matter)
Aerosmith
Van Halen
Nirvana
Any rap or hip-hop
most other heavy metal.

Bands/performers I think you must be a complete moron if don't absolutely love.

Bowie
Beautiful South
Waterboys
Pogues

Bands/performers I love but can understand why they wouldn't be everyones cuppa tea.
Smiths
BDB
Tom Waits

I'm sure there's more for each list, but I'm busy at work so my mind is all over the place at the mo'

(third edit in two minutes…can't be THAT busy!)

Bands/performers I can't stand but can understand why some would.

Foofighters
Metallica
Bruce Springboard…(good lyrics)
what about Tom Jones :p

I'm finally going to get some Beautiful South from a friend and check 'em out. Will report back in…hell, in months with all I've got to listen to!

I don't understand how everyone doesn't love a bunch of bands I listen to….I'll listen to a perfect Jellyfish or Sloan song and think, "this is perfect."

I appreciate that….though there are some FF songs I think are so blissful (not all, though, for everyone).

I don't like The Boss or the Stones, but I understand why folks love them. The Dead or Phish – that I just don't get at all (though I do respect the Dead; however, their hardcore fans make me crazy).

Skeeter, just look the other way… :D
speaking of divisive (and I know this topic has been done to death) but I just paid $41.50 for $24 worth of tickets to Sleater Kinney at the Recher Theatre - damn
Other than Nirvana and early REM, I hate the bands on your hate list. I like the bands on your cuppa tea list and hate the bands on your moron list.

I guess that makes me a suicidal, bisexual, teabag loving moron.

We got tickets at the Recher box office, and they were $2 service charge each. And even worse, we got tickets at the Birchmere AT THE DOOR for a show Saturday night, and paid $3 service fee each.

Really makes me appreciate the Black Cat offering advance tickets with no service fee.

Maybe that's the feeling among most people, but among the more hardcore REM fans, there's a huge divide over the post-Hi-Fi stuff. They either think it's wonderful, experimental music for the new century…or they think it's a bunch of self-indulgent, boring, listless crap and think REM should get off their asses and get back to their rock 'n' roll roots.

I'll be sure to give you a full report about tonight's Ratdog show though.
Last night's show was excellent. I've seen Phil's post-Dead band a couple of times, but I hadn't seen Bobby's until last night. Very pleasantly surprised.

Toots was, of course, masterful as always. He will be on SNL with Donald Trump this Saturday.
Really, I find that fascinating…I just find the new stuff kind of boring, overly mellow, etc. But, because of that I have paid littel attention to it. Their last album is the first of theirs I didn't buy, but I don't listen much to albums after Green (I listen almost exclusively to Murmur, Reckoning and Fables, in fact…)

K.I.S.S.
I myself believe that Life's Rich Pageant is the best REM you can get. Yes, I hate them for their new stuff. I hate that you have to pay $50 to hear them play three good old songs and a boatload of drivel. I hate that they moved to NYC/Seattle. I especially hate Michael's self-righteous ranting. I mean, I agree with his politics, but his music was better when he wasn't political, you know?!

REM's quality is directly proportional to release date. Chronic Town was brilliant and it's pretty much straight downhill from there, with Green being the last album worth listening to.

Stipe was best when he was cryptical and mumbling. The more clear his lyrics became, the more loathsome he became.
This is out of topic…. I heard twangirl does the bookings for Fletchers, is this true?? if so, how can I PM her??

sorry to derail the topic, I know that's Rhett's territory…

Actually, I find the lyrics of "I Believe" to be quite poetic and beautiful… then again, i'm an activist type, so…
