I get most of my music from ebay (especially imports), followed by Tower or Amazon.
I've recently started to download music from eMusic, and use iTunes for the occasional random song here and there.

Melody when I'm in DC
Amoeba when I'm in SF
Insound when I'm in DC and Melody doesn't have it
Once in a while, I'll also buy CDs direct from Matador, Merge or SubPop

45% = Ebay
35% = Amazon.com marketplace sellers
15% = from online stores like Amazon & Overstock.com
04% = direct from label/artist, CD Baby, etc…
01% = quasi-legal file sharing

So no one shops at Crooked Beat?
I really like the place, although the inventory and new indie releases can be a bit sketchy, when compared to Melody for instance.

All right, I totally do that. A buddy of mine and I often decide beforehand who is going to buy something, and then we just burn it for the other. Particularly if it's a major label band. I realize it doesn't matter, but is the Cure really hurting for money? I need those re-issues!
I buy a lot through Amazon. The prices tend to be good, and I'll group them up to get the free shipping.
I download some, mostly through music blogs, so that I can hear the new bands. If I like something, I'll usually buy the disc. I'll use a fileshare program sometimes, usually after reading NME's singles of the week.
I sometimes get the 9.99 specials at Best Buy too. I'm not very good about patronizing the local stores. I used to spend $100+ a week at Vinyl Ink in Silver Spring because I worked around the corner.

I'll give another nod to Crooked Beat. I've been trying to buy on CD what I had on tape as a teen (Husker Du, Black Flag, Pixies, etc).
If I had to guess at the percentages I'd go with:
40% Crooked Beat
30% Record and Tape Traders
20% CD-R's from friends
10% deepdiscountcd.com

I get maybe 5% that way. Often I end up buying the disc anyway if I see it used. I like having the whole package.

I did a couple years ago when I was just startung up my digital music library, but haven't much lately at all. Mostly because I see forum folks less than I used to, and among my other friends, I'm the one who buys the music primarily.
