Q And Not U Break-up

I guess we'll all be at the Fort Reno show for sure now.
Q and Not U to Disband
Rob Kleckner reports:
While band breakups over ideological differences, drugs, and/or women might make for great VH-1 broadcasts, sometimes bands just feel they've run their course and are content to leave things as they are and remain friends. This is the case with Q and Not U who, in an email earlier today, have announced their disbandment. "After seven years, hundreds of shows, thousands of miles, 46 states, four continents, three albums, only one flat-tire and countless nicknames for Shawn Brackbill, Q and Not U is disbanding," wrote band member Chris Richards.

"With all of your support, we feel that we've reached all of our shared goals as Q and Not U and we're ready to move on to other projects in life. We all hope to play music together again someday, but we feel that it's a beautiful and natural time to bring this band to a close."

Q and Not U formed after Richards and John Davis left the band Elusive. They were joined by Harris Klahr and releaased an EP, Hot and Informed in 1999. They were signed by Dischord and release their debut full-length, No Kill No Beep Beep, in 2000. Since then, they have released two other LPs, most recently Power in 2004.

Now, those of you with tickets for their upcoming gigs need not fret– the shows will go on. But after that, that's that. So if that last show in the District hasn't sold out yet, chances are it most certainly will. Here are the final dates:

07-16 Brooklyn, NY - Siren Music Festival
07-17 Asbury Park, NJ - Stone Pony
07-18 Washington, DC - Fort Reno

From their web page

We're still playing a handful of shows this summer, (Siren Festival, the Stone Pony, Fort Reno), and we are currently confirming some farewell shows in D.C. for September. Those details will be announced shortly.

have they ever played 930? i would think their farewell show would call for a saturday 930 gig … unless they want to have their send-off at their "home" club …

I've seen them at 9:30 twice as openers. I don't know if it's simply the opening slot, but both times I thought their performance was below average.

maybe its another 930 vs black cat atmosphere … i've seen them a few times at the cat and loved their shows … tons of energy … i admire their decision to just call it quits … more bands should do that and leave a good taste in our mouths
oh goodness, i'm going to cry!
right…so much for tegan and sara that night…

This is such sad news. They might well be the best band to have come out of DC in a decade. Oh and GGW, I remeber at least one of those 930 shows–their very first 930 gig was opening for an unknown NY band called Interpol who opened for a slightly better-known UK band called Clinic…
so let's do a career recap … best album? best song?

my favorite album is their first one, 'no kill no beep beep', their second is not far behind but the energy on the first is just fantastic

favorite track is 'and the washington monument (blinks) goodnight', close second is 'soft pyramids' (that 's-o-f, t-p-y, r-a-m, i-d-s' chant gets into my head all the time)
best song - 'so many animals calls', maybe even 'wet work'

best album - i really like the new one, but i think i will say different damage

i have a friend who hates them solely based on the s-o-f t-p-y part of soft pyramids

hah!

i really like 'so many animal calls' too, that's gotta be their best rocker
I'll have to go with "A Line in the Sand" as best song, with "When the Lines Go Down" and "Nine Things Everybody Knows" taking silver and bronze, respectively.

Best album is "Different Damage" by a whisker over the first album. I was disappointed with "Power." However, I didn't really listen to it much after the few spins I gave it when it first came out. I will have to revisit it.
"So Many Animal Calls" is my favorite as well.
nice.
PS–
this should be the forum party.
damn….might have to try and make it down for fort reno
Tickets for both black cat shows just went on sale. I havent a clue if these will be ther final two show ever. If so that Friday show should be tits!
I got my friday tickets. I figure between that and fort reno, i can sit thursday out. I really love the first and new albums. Different Damage was just lacking something.
See you there Friday!
