Vienna vs. the back alleys of DC

Regarding Vienna (#3 on Money Magazines Grat American Towns):
"It's a safe town and a good place to have an all-ages club, as opposed to a back alley in DC," said Daniel Brindley, owner of Jammin Java.
BUT WAIT ONE MINUTE! I THOUGHT I READ ON THE 9:30 CHAT BOARD THAT THE DC CLUBS WERE IN SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS!

Haha…I did not go to Vienna's award winning highschool…so that is probably why I didn't read the entire post before I just assumed you were making a spelling error. Oh well.
But seriously, Vienna is a cool place…if you have a couple kids and a mini van. Good schools, great recreational sports programs for kids (soccer, lacrosse, football), the W&OD trail runs through it, its close to a big city, and there is decent public transportation. When I was in highschool I didn't have a car, but I could ride my bike to the Metro if I wanted to go into the District or just jump on the Metro bus that stopped at the bottom of my street to go anywhere else. I enjoyed growing up there.
As a 26 year old, I don't see it as the most hip and happening place (my parents, btw, love Jammin Java and the fact that they can walk there to see shows)…but if I had a family (and could afford a house there), I wouldn't mind raising my kids in Vienna.

Yuppified strip malls and there is NO comparison between JamminJ and the 930. Dan is flattering himself.
I heard some Viennesians talking in line there last week, and they are sooooooo proud of their new status. They have a HORRIBLE traffic problem: No ethnic influences or neighborhoods (NO Anita's DOES NOT COUNT), no moderately priced housing, a private police force that uses EXCESSIVELY intrusive techniques to maintain "law and order", and easy access by Metro primarily for their latino housekeepers to get to work at their homes since EVERYONE I know who lives there DRIVES everywhere.
Bite me, Vienna. You're white bread America without ANY color or flavor. "Your" community is the LAST place I'd live in the metro area. I'd rather dodge bullets than die of boredom. Who answers those "polls" anyway? Turn polling on here, Kosmo. Let's get to the truth!

Just because some place lacks ethnic diversity doesn't make it boring. For example, most of Europe, the Caribbean, the Pacific Northwest, Canada, Australia, etc. all lack ethnic diversity but seem like cool places.
