like i said, not everyone feels the same about pain. some like it, some love it, some don't feel it, some need it to get off, some put up with it temporarily to get a long term result, some feel it makes you stronger.

i know my relationship with pain, but i can't speak for anyone else's. it's none of my business, as long as nobody is getting hurt without their consent. whatever floats your boat, different drum, etc.

i own ichi the killer. i've seen way more intense stuff in person and for real than they fake in that movie, but it's alright.

But still, I think you're a rather twisted individual. No offense. But I'm thinking you get off on other's shocked opinions vis your appearance..? I also wonder what you will find shocking about youth culture thirty years from now when you're off the shelf?

Some years back, I was up early on a saturday and saw parts of a show on PBS about body modification. Thatguy was on it, suggest finding it, it was very enlightening.

having spoken a few times with josh, he's always striked me as very serene and peaceful - not someone who is in-your-face looking to (or even caring about) other people's reactions. maybe you're projecting? just because that's the only justification you can come up with for body mods doesn't mean that it is in fact the reason that people chose to live how they live.

how is this different than posting oh-so-shocking crap on a message board and getting off on other people's reactions? at least we know for a fact that THAT is a known M.O. around here…

i know this is just bait, but i have a few quick thoughts:

you are entitled to your opinions, and i take no offense. i only allow the opinions of a very few people to have any impact on my world and my feelings, and you're nowhere near that short list. you know no more about me than what i have shared here, which is essentially nothing. why should i be offended by what a stranger thinks about me? in the same vein, why should i "get off" on what a stranger thinks about me?

my motivations for my choices regarding my body are purely internal, and have nothing to do with anyone but myself. if everyone in the world looked like me, i'd do what i do. if i was the only one in the world that looked like me, i'd do what i do. i accept the consequences of my choices, which include a great deal of attention from strangers, but i definitely do not do what i do because of that. if it makes me twisted to be true to myself, then i'm twisted.

if you had any concept of the amount of attention i draw on a daily basis, you would realize that there's no way anyone could "get off" on it. i once tried to keep a diary of every time someone pointed, whispered, stared, asked a question, or any such thing. after about two hours and over 100 entries, i stopped. and that was just out running errands. on a night at work, it would be impossible to keep track. that's what i get, and that's fine with me. some days i would rather blend in and avoid that attention, but i have no regrets.

i believe that in order to have meaningful relationships with other people, you must first be true to yourself. if i denied or suppressed my drive to modify my body, i would be basing everything else in my life on lies.

That's pretty much what I was going to say, only with less words.

I've always had the impression that thatguy finds inner-peace with his outward appearance. One would get that after one conversation with the man.

The funny thing about Josh is that though he might seem physically intimidating at first, it's pretty easy to get beyond the physical appearance quickly. I think when someone is real and genuine, that's what happens, and Josh is way more real to me than most people I ever meet. Although I have no real desire to get tattoos (ok, maybe one or 2 would be cool), I am fascinated by the idea of people that are so in tune with themselves that it becomes communication and self-expression. For a while in the 90's I think it was just something cool to do…but when it's coming from someone that is genuine, body art takes on a whole other meaning. I would never think of someone like Josh as being a "rather wisted individual"…that's what happens when you judge a book by its cover. Open it up and read it a bit, then make a decision. I wish more people were like Josh in being comfortable with themselves and really KNOWING who they are…being self-aware and wanting to crack open one's own psyche are qualities that are sorely lacking in many people I know.

Intimidating????….I think thatguy is rather cute actually!
