I'm no animal rights activist, but this shows absolutely no respect to those porpoises. What the hell is Greenpeace thinking?

Dead Porpoises Disrupt Berlin Whaling Meeting

BERLIN (Reuters) - Greenpeace activists stretchered three dead porpoises to the site of the International Whaling Commission Thursday, disrupting the meeting to highlight the threats marine mammals face.

The three harbor porpoises had been ensnared and drowned by fishing nets in the Baltic Sea. The activists urged the world whaling organization to tackle the problem of so-called bycatch, which environmentalists say kills 300,000 whales, dolphins and porpoises a year.

Activists bearing the porpoises, about 1-1/2 meters (3 ft 3 in) long, marched on to the grounds of the hotel where the IWC meeting was taking place.

The demonstration was timed to coincide with a coffee break in the meeting. Some delegates booed when they saw the dead porpoises.

This week's annual meeting has exposed the deep splits in the IWC between pro-whaling nations, led by Japan and Norway, which are keen to allow limited whale catches, and those such as the United States and many European states pushing to give greater protection to the planet's biggest mammals.

Anti-whalers succeeded Monday in backing a measure to set up a conservation committee, a sharp shift for the 57-year-old Commission hailed by environmentalists.

thats a horrible thing to happen. but i don't fully agree with you on it. Yes it is disrespectful to the propoises but it has to be less disrespectfull, then the way in which they were killed. It would seem that the animals were already dead and that if dragging the carcas (?spelling?) to make some sort of statement about it in hopes of stopping it, seems to be for the good and respect of the species instead of bad and disrespect to the dead animal.

Porpoises go to heaven, just like most good people. Only Republicans go to hell.

I think the true catholic, ergo christian, definition, is that animals do not have souls, thus, they do not go to ehaven. Always found that hard to beleive though.

Apparently it is for Rhett. I think heaven could be a bowling alley if you want it to be. Being neither a catholic, nor a chrisitian with any sense of the after-life, for all i know heaven is infinite darkness. Better than a gay nightclub.

I was not referring to a gay nightclub. I was referring to places where fat pale middle age British swingers go to get it on.

not necessarily true. . st. augustine argued that animals did have souls. . however, descartes disagreed. augustine argued that since humans have similar characteristics as humans, animals must also possess a soul. the difference between humans and animals only being the ability for humans to be self-conscious and have free choice. furthermore, he argued that people are morally responsible in the way one treats an animal and act humanely.

however, descartes argued that animals could not think or act like humans (real), but are more like clocks and clockwork (unreal); ergo, could not have a soul. since we are still stuck in a cartesian system, this has obviously been the prevalent mode of thought since.

Your sum that up nicely. I did always think it would really suck to eat an animal that had a soul. I mean imagine the embarassment in heaven if you walked by daisy the cow and she mooed "you ate me, 2 burgers and a pair of shoes".

I dont understand how and why anyone could believe in heaven and hell. The plot of Matrix2 is more feasible to me.
