Word has gotten about the DAM! fest as there was good number of people out for the DC9 show last nignt.
Bellfur where sonic wallpaper that were nice to listen but didn't comple to plunk down for their EPs.
There were times when The Oranges Band were really going to get me excited about them, but just seem lack some key element such as attitude or some drive in their playing.
It was great to finally see Soft Complex, the last song of the set was killer.
The Cold War Kids will be huge and I left after 20 minutes of their set.
Think I would rather have made the decision to save up my energy and see Decibilly tonight instead, as I'm really enjoying their record from a couple years ago at the moment.
Lets some things run a bit smoothly Sat night as CWK didn't hit the stage until 12:30am..

Thanks for coming Kosmo; was nice getting a chance to talk with you. Glad you dug the last tune!
Cold War Kids does absolutely nothing for me. The guy has a really good voice, and they were very nice people, but beyond that…meh.

Any estimates on set times at RnR Hotel tonight?
Anyone know when doors open at DC9 for Saturday's show?

Well you do have the "benefit" of an extra hour tonight… But, hopefully no serious planning will occur around it :D
I'm so sad, I didn't make any of the DAM! Festival. Had folks in, just couldn't spread myself that thin. I did, in my stead, send 6 folks to RnR on Friday and a few to RnR on Saturday.
Redsock, I hope it all went well. I love the whole idea and did my small bit to 'promote' your efforts!!
Anyone have input on Saturday night at DC9?

Poor Kosmo had to make it through another looong night at DC9 on Saturday. Mental note, no more 5-band line-ups…
My thoughts on our first year? I am pretty happy with how it all went. Having different venues at the same time causes problems, but generally manageable ones. We had a couple dud shows, where attendance was small, but some of that was weather, halloween and too many options related. Attendance at DC9 and RnR was generally good. Longwave was great, so glad to finally see them. Falcon, their side-project, were Awesome, many on here would love their stuff. I missed a bunch of bands I wanted to see, but i guess that is expected.
We got a TON of positive press, way more than i ever thoguht we would. Very little trashing, save a mention on an internet bb here and there. Our goal was to get on the radar, be succesful enough to have it again, which we were. Now we can work harder at planning and shaping this DAM thing for next year.

Well didn't make it through all of Saturday night. I think that was thanks to Forget Cassettes, who if i never see again, it will be too soon! Pela played an awesome set. Met Billy after the set and he is a really cool guy. Bishop Allen were incredible as always, aside from the chick next to me that Id have liked to bitch-slap. Most the people there were friendly and having a good time, but I guess this chick thought she was the only person there to see Bishop Allen. Her comment 'youre here to see bishop allen?' me: yeah her: REALLY!?! I think this comment was made when she realized she decided to stand right in front of me, and then acted bewildered that I was there to see Bishop Allen. I know I have seen her at other shows and I wanted to kill her then. I wish some people could be banned from shows.
aside from that, it was a great show. id definitely show up again and hopefully catch more shows. Trying to navigate CMJ is a pure headache.

I wanted to see De Novo Dahl, but I couldn't make it, unfortunately. How were they? Did DC9 sell out on Saturday?
By the time DND played around 2am the place was about half cleared out… I was a bit worried about what impact losing three long standing members of the bands would have, but have to say that DND 2.0 is still a rockin' outfit. If anything they are playing with more urgency and the edges are rougher. The new material sounds great live, can't wait for their next area appearance.
Saturday was the best night of the festival for me, Pela and Bishop Allen were cool new discoveries. Would have to agree about the Forget Cassettes and the Bound Stems were just not my thing. Thought the sound level at DC9 unbearable loud up front and with the club's layout it's impossible to find a seat with any view of the stage what so ever.

Wow, 2am! I'm sorry to miss DND, but I'm glad I didn't try too hard to get there. Recipe for disaster indeed.
That's good to hear about DND, I was curious about the new lineup too. I didn't know which guys they were losing.
Big thumbs up on the festival. I made it to the RnR on friday for Hopewell and Longwave, and then to DC9 saturday for Pela, Forget Cassettes, and the first half of Bishop Allen. Wanted to stay for the full saturday lineup but I had to get to a halloween party and I'm not sure I would've lasted anyway.
RnR hotel is a nice venue. My first time there. Good sound - probably a combo of the venue, the sound guy, and quality bands. Hopewell is consistently solid and I enjoyed Longwave as well.
Pela was good on saturday, and I guess I'm in the minority of thinking that Forget Cassettes weren't bad either. I have Pela's EP, but I don't think they played a single song from it. Perhaps they have a new release I don't have yet. I liked the new tunes though. There seemed to be a problem with the sound for Bishop Allen. I'd like to hear more of them.
Thanks to Redsock.
