These are frightening times

It's technically a privilege….if it's a 'right' then why is a convicted felon not allowed to own one, wonder why?
Considering it's contained in the Bill of Rights, I'd argue otherwise.

Your petty attempts at insults detract from any points you may try to make in your arguement. But I'll go ride my bike, thank you very much.

Don't worry though, Dubya and Ashcroft probably aren't done shredding your rights yet. Give them a little time and they'll probably ban guns (except for your "government protectors"). You know, so the terrorists won't get a hold of them. I'm sure you'd feel safe then.
Around 4,000 kids a year are killed in the US by guns. And that's during a good year. In the late 90's that number topped 5,000 a few times.
Over 110,000 deaths in America in 1996 were directly attributable to alcohol.

What was your point?

Uhhh….I think my point is pretty freaking clear. Don't you think that 5,000 dead children is way too many? Or are you saying that the high number of deaths due to alcohol makes it a non-issue? I didn't think so.

That's another thread Mr. Contrarian.
There were 17,448 drunken driving deaths in 2001.

Most of these were innocent victims, not the drivers themselves.

This is very sad, and the deaths of innocent people (some of them no doubt being children, which is ALWAYS sadder than the death of an adult) were pointless.

Therefore, we should ban alcohol use.

Don't put words in my mouth. I never once suggested a ban on firearms.

Sure alcohol abuse and its results are a huge problem in the US. Some would say it's a much bigger problem than gun violence….but that's not the point we're discussing here is it?
Ok, I was just questioning your point in making the statement below. Often, on this board, people make emotional pleas as evidence for their arguments. Thus, I incorrectly assumed that was what you were doing.

I agree with you. The numbers below are sad.

How many non-doodles on here are in favour of having everyone walk around with guns?

Just wondering if it's strictly a doodle thing.
Nice spin on the words there. I've got no problem with someone owning a gun. That's their business. Walking around with it is a different story.
