I'm going. Missed them every other time they've been around so I'm looking forward to it. I love Pikul and Carnavas.
My only fear is that sunday night + Towson + non-stop touring = lackluster show. Though, if they've been playing a lot of openers and festivals, a smaller venue like Recher could be more up their alley.

come January 1st. we're smoke free too, so you'll have to think of another reason not to come here ;)
I live "here" so smoke or no smoke that's reason enough. And something tells me that Sonar, Recher, Ottobar, and Rams Head will have a special dispensation to continue torturing my lungs well into the future

Saw 'em at ChiliCookOff.
Great look, decent sound – but, despite lots of good moments, the songs aren't great enough all the way through.
I wish 'em well, though

Baltimore, gets a one year respite of me slaggin it. This show just entered my top 10 of 2007 and I don't even have 10 great shows for the year quite yet. For those worried about it being boring, I can only say this was the type of experience I spend way too much money chasing worldwide and I got in my own backyard for next to nothing on a Sunday night no less. Simply spectacular, and I'm underselling it. This weekend was wicked, I saw Bjork in Chicago and SSPU throw the gauntlet down on the non-believers…Ok I'll stop slobbering now and go to bed.

Not sure if it was the fact that they were headlining at a smallish club, but this was an excellent show. The previous comments about lack of stage presence and boring live show certainly didn't apply last night.

i wholeheartedly agree with bnyced0 and shemp and cannot say enough good things!!
definitely NOT boring, even on the tiny recher stage. the songs were a brilliant mix of melody and fuzzy distortion. dude's voice didnt miss a note. the drummer was fun to watch too.
and while i thought they were very very good most of the time…they totally killed it on at least 3 songs…lazy eye, kissing families and comeback kid.
and they were totally loving the show too, you know you're a good crowd when the drummer is taking pictures of the audience at the end. the bassist girl said it was "maybe the best show on the tour" (they were cool enough to come out and chat with people at the merch table after the show).
next time they're in the area….see them, no excuses.

Agree with all of the above - great show, great energy. That lead has an amazing voice to go from melody to scream and back to melody without so much as a hiccup. My expectations for Kissing Families and Lazy Eye were sky high, but they still delivered.
Only thing that would've made the show better is for it to have been on a saturday and at Black Cat or somewhere in DC. Recher is a bitch to get to for me (2 hour drive home with the construction on 95) but I've never seen a bad show there.
Thanks to Bnyced0 for the extra ticket!

Yeah, wish I'da known about that paving work going on on 95. Made for an unpleasant trip south. And running over that deer carcass was pretty nasty too. At least the show was good.

I must have hit that thing doing 70+. Knocked my car out of gear and scared the shit out of me; fortunately, my whip seems no worse for it. I have no idea how I didn't see that thing laying in the road.
I concur with all the other reviews - excellent show. Better than the backstage show. I guess touring for the last 6-9 months has tightened them up. The Pilipino animal behind the drum kit still steals the show, in my opinion.
Sea Wolf were pretty good – kind of like the Decemberists with balls. I don't know that I would rush out to see them again, but I'm glad I caught their set.

I was merging onto 32W when I noticed flashing blue and red lights in the distance. Having had an 'incident' with HoCo police on this road before I was a bit concerned. With my attention directed uproad I failed to see the Bambi bits strewn in front of me. Fortunately I was able to steer my entire right side directly over the largest chunk. Whump!

After spending an hour on 95 going a total distance of about 4 miles, I needed a bathroom break, so I pulled off on 32. Like Shemp, I got distacted by the cop on the shoulder. Then, after swerving around the scattered entrails, I saw the motherlode too late and my left wheels went right over it.

It being Mothers Day and all, I wasn't sure I was going until the last minute. I did look around for an obnoxious guy with a goatee, but didn't see you.
