Anybody have any idea of the set times at this place?
Silversun Pickups at Recher
silversun pickups were the worst show i've seen so far this year… just fyi. :)
damn miss p. bursting my bubble!!!! what was bad about them??
doors are 7. i'd expect Sea Wolf at 8pm, SSPU around 9.
seems like that would have the show end at 10 though?
i'll be there around 8, figuring nothing will happen before then.

Opening slots on bigger shows suck the life out of many a band. The SSPU show at the Black Cat last summer was solid.

let's put it this way. i took my mom (she loves snow patrol as most moms and 14-year-old girls do nowadays although she is pretty hip thanks to her super-sweet daughter) and even she was bored to tears.

I will be there Sunday.
So are SSPU more boring on stage than Interpol?

perhaps they were playing to the Snow Patrol crowd, figuring they must like boring music! ;)
sonick, keep the hope alive. i seem to remember that in the snow patrol @ bender arena thread, most people enjoyed the pickups. i also remember thinking that they'd be MUCH better headlineing a smaller venue instead of opening in a larger one - so this show should be right up their alley and i'd have higher expectations for it. i would be at this show if i didn't already have plans.
good question. i'll let you know after virgin festival.

The chick bassist is pretty sedentary, and the keyboard dude hides in a corner. But if you just watch the drummer, you definitely won't be bored.

some friends saw them open in nyc on the same tour (and before that at cmj) and they were voted one of the best bands to see live at cmj. id normally take that stuff with a grain of salt, but considering i really liked the other bands listed and saw some of them live, i figure its probably spot on.
seemed most of their shows they played very solid sets that didnt leave people bored to tears. perhaps its the audience? and FYI - snow patrol in NYC draws pretty energetic crowds that do get into their music. im not going to start the DC people dont dance debate, because thats not relevant, but perhaps the show lacked people showing emotion/energy/signs of life??
which reminded me - i saw the dandy warhols at the 9:30 club a few years back, then days later up in nyc. i was able to talk to CTT for a bit and i recalled him saying that the DC show was so bad, that the band just didnt care, and since the crowd wasnt into it, they werent either.

A band might have to be asleep on stage to be less interesting on stage than Interpol
Never seen a boring SSPU show, but I'm a pretty big fan and familiar with the music. I suppose if you had never heard of them, were generally sKeptical about opening bands, and aren't that patient (I think if you're looking for Snow Patrol/OKGO hooks, and general pop-i-ness then new soundscapes aren't your thing) then they could be boring. But if you DON'T think Bardo Pond, Sonic Youth, and Big Sleep (non pun intended) are boring then SSPU will be right up your alley as well. And if I was using my mom as a barometer for what's hot and what's not…well. No slaggin moms, she took me to most of my early shows (Zepplin/Judas Priest Kingdome 77), Commdores/Earth Wind and Fire Paramount 78, even was groovin in highschool Madonna/Beastie Boys Paramount in 85 got me backstage passes) but still.
Bottom line, I think this will be pretty good, even worth dealing with the smokestack and talking that happens at every baltimore venue:)

I've heard the record with Kissing Families. Maybe they've gotten better since. But all I remember thinking is that they sounded like one of the gazillion early nineties alt-rock bands that were on the radio during that period. And from the video of that song, yea, they look really, really bored. I admit though that I've never seen them live.
um, even if you don't like sspu for some reason, please go for Sea Wolf…they are really really really damn good.
I go to Recher for the 2nd-hand smoke.
