Thanks for blowing the lid off of that one. I'll be in Madrid.

Rhett, the closest you've come to cutting edge in the past five years is your Bic diposable. I hope you enjoy Madrid as much as they'll enjoy you.
morningwood … bigtime mainstream success

I was pretty disappointed when I saw them last Fall. But they probably will do fairly well this year.
i'd have to go with Motion City Soundtrack and Acceptance

Oh god, I was afraid someone was going to say this and I'm also afraid that you're right. This was one of the WORST bands I've ever seen; they opened for Kasabian and The Music in early '05 at the club. They were so bad I couldn't even stand to look at them. And now they're getting all this buzz. Blech.

it's even worse that they're so cocky … there's nothing more horrible than a band that is as confident as it is bad

The perfect solution for trying to figure out who Kurosawa is talking about. :p
So it's 2006, and now that the mainstream seems to have caught up to the dance-punk or post-punk or post-post-punk or whatever you want to call it scene, it's time to start calling for its death knell. Critical backlash against the so-called garage revival happened as soon as all the kids started imitating Nuggets tracks and claiming a Detroit lineage, and now that all the young bands seem be cutting their bangs diagonally and wearing suits to gigs, the signs are imminent that we're fast approaching critical mass and, ultimately, apathy.

Apathy, eh? So indie is the new alt-country?
What modern rock dj did you pilfer than brilliant line from?

I don't think alt-country ever has been on some cutting edge, or was ever the hot new trend. It always will have it's small core of unwavering, trend oblivious devotees though. Those people are certainly not apathetic toward it. I suppose the same could be said about garage rock.

Yeah the description in yesterday's post makes me want to run out and buy this one…

"The debut album from a female-fronted of ragtag popsters is crammed with big riffs, pep-rally chants and reach-for-the-sky-arena-rock choruses."

"Singer Chantal Claret's sugary-sweet voice enchants, especially when leading a cheerleader-style spell-out of the her bands name."

im hoping the lovemakers will finally get their attention. sure they've been around since last year, and played the hell outta SF, NYC and LA (along with the lovely boys of She Wants Revenge), but hopefully they will get some love this year (no pun intended). and hopefully i will finally be seeing them playing with she wants revenge :)

One of smackettes favorites from 2005. I just don't see it though.
I'm really liking the Subways at the moment. Anyone think they have a shot?

(Tickets for their 9:30 Club concert went on sale today, FYI.)
