malkmus did nothing for me. too hard to follow in a venue that size. needs a date at the 930 but i still dont think i'd go. was rather underwhelmed.
RadioHead - Merriweather Post Pavilion
I get tired of hearing people whine "I missed most of the set because I was stuck in traffic", etc. LEAVE EARLIER!!! I live in Southern MD, and knew the traffic would be a nightmare, so I allowed plenty of time to make sure I didn't miss a second of Radiohead. As it turned out, I arrived at about 6:15, and caught SM too. As far as the show, it was fantasitc! I thought they couldn't top the Field Day Festival, but they did. It just confirmed for me there are very few bands that perform at the same level as Radiohead. I was pleasantly surprised to here Wolf at the Door, Just and yes even Creep.
Can someone please shed some light on the strange set times? At first I believed that we were going to get some kind of "special extra-long" set to make up for the past DC problems (how naive of me).
I know Merriweather has a noise curfew, but isn't it 11:00? Looks like all other Radiohead shows on the tour are at the "normal" time.

I'm shocked at the traffic problems that some encountered. I remember being on the beltway for 3 hours for the stones last year only to find Dan Snyder asking for $25 to park. I came from Frederick last night and from my house to the parking lot took 40 minutes. 70 East, 29 South and arrived at exactly 5:45. My "moment the tickets went on sale" seats put me pretty much behind the soundboard in the back of the pavillion. I was however privy to a setlist long before the show started. Started walking to the car during No Suprises, and was in bed by 10:30…. I do however sympathise with you folks that had it rough.

That traffic made me miss a photo assignment. I was meant to cover radiohead, but all I got was pavement.

I took comfort in the fact that only 3 of the 9 photgraphers who were meant to cover the show actually made it in time.

Thom Yorke isnt as pretty as Mr Wet Blanket anyway.
Originally posted by wxdude:Okay, you see the issue is that some of us work. It's how we pay for all these concert tickets, $12 beers and CDs. Oh yeah, and rent. I'm sorry, these pavillion shows are too friggin' early. I think it's because they're out in the 'burbs where people live and so there are curfews. It's nuts. Nissan is usually much worse, but it sounds like Merriweather was pretty bad as well last night.

All I can say is, I live in the city and to spend 5 hours in a car to see a band at Nissan is unreal. I could go to Philly during non-rush hour traffic.
I don't have an answer, but you can't blame the concertgoers for poor planning. The best laid plans of mice and men, after all….

Radiohead is a mainstream band for suburban teens anyway.

Originally posted by wxdude:Shut the fuck up. Many of us work. Many of us have attend shows where there were loads of people and trafic wasn't this bad. I waited an hour ON THE FUCKING RAMP off Columbia. How the hell was I supposed to know that. It's never happened before, I have no basis to assume that I would sit on a ramp for an hour. Now if I had just cut to the front I wouldn't have missed the gloaming, but ah well. Something was clearly very fucked up. I want to defend Merryweather against Nissan but fuck it. Tear it down. I won't be going to another pavillion show again so I don't really care. Who starts a show at 6:30. That was rediculous.

Good set by the by, although people really have clapping issues. Took them over a minute to figure out We Suck Young Blood. It's on the 4 folks! And I will say that row S provided an excellent view.

Originally posted by sonickteam2:Seing Stephen Malkmus would have been great – because then i'd have been there in enough time to photograph radiohead. The pavement reference was aimed more at the road I was laying (while taking the above picture) than it was at the former [pavement] front man.
really? I just heard Stephen Malkmus.
man!! which way did everyone come in?? We cam in from Rt. 29 from I-70 and we didnt get stuck in ANY traffic whatsoever! none. and we got there at like 6pm. I am sorry to hear people got stuck in traffic. Merriweather usually isnt like that..but then again, i havent been in like 3 years until last night.
As for working, i left early to make sure i showered shaved and ate and gave myself PLENTY of time……but not everyone can leave work early.
