We need a TV thread dont we?

Waiting for one of the resident hipster responses:

1) "I don't even own a television."

2) "I only watch PBS."

I've never understood tv's bad rep. Sure 60% of it is garbage, but you can say that about any medium. As far as I can tell, "The Simple Life," any recent movie starring Cuba Gooding Jr, and the latest shlock from Mary Higgins Clark are on the same rung of the food chain. If you want quality in books, movies, and television, it can be found. To dismiss the entire television medium seems like an antiquted notion since most Americans have access to more than just the 5 networks. I laugh at people who tell me they don't watch tv but plunk down $9 to watch some piece of crap Gus Van Sant film about a cereal box. Praising film and shunning television is like condemning McDonald's on your way into Chipotle. It all comes from the same place folks.
60%??? You're a very generous soul.

Are Borders and KMart the same thing?

Aqua Teen Hunger Force. It's pretty random, and as such, occasionally hysterical and occasionally "blah." The episode with the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past (from the Future!) is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

My Tivo is set to record weekly:
Arrested Development
This show is so fucking hysterical this season…I already loved it, but it's sharper than ever. Just great.

Funny, I've completely ditched Boston Legal. Kirk and Spader are just cartoony for me, and there are too many other shows.

This is probably such a girl thing, but I LOVE Grey's Anatomy. Also waiting for the return of Scrubs.

My Tivo:

Grey's Anatomy

Desperate Housewives (though I'm very close to ditching this one)

Veronica Mars

Gilmore Girls

Lost

Nip/Tuck

Alias

Arrested Development

My Name is Earl/The Office (though I've only watched first episodes of each to date)

Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent

Real Time with Bill Maher
oh yeah, real time. tivo that

Earl: "So here I am,…teachin'. The last time i stood in front of a room full of foreigners, I was robbin' the DMV."

(Earl hugs Ralph after he gets out of prison.)
Earl: Man, 18 months, I missed you buddy.

Ralph: Yeah, uh, me too man. Feels good to hug a man and know it doesn't have to go anywhere.

To the convenience store clerk who is from India:

Ralph: "See you later, Tonto!"

Earl: "Sorry, he doesn't know he's supposed call you American Indian."

That didn't do it for you?

I was picky. The INXS viewing accounted for my entire two hours of tv viewing a week during the summer, and the Fulks interview took all of 15 seconds to watch.

Now I watch Lost. Throw in the occasional baseball game and bits and pieces of an occasional NASCAR race, and that's it. Really.
Believe it or not, you watch a lot more tv than I do, which isn't saying you watch a lot.

I just rarely ever bother with it. Too many other things to occupy my time and interests. Also, I don't have cable so I'm stuck with a lot more of the crap that I'd just rather not waste my time with unless I just want background activity while I'm napping. Even then, I tend to opt for music instead.

When I do watch it, it's generally in spurts. Oddly, and I've never figured this out yet, I always seem to manage to see a repeat of some show that I've already seen. What I can't figure out is that with the very little tv that I do watch, how did I ever see the original airing in the first place? I could see only one episode of some show and not see it again in ages and damned if it won't be the one show that I've already seen.
oh yeah how did i forget dave 'chappelle's show'?! awesome especially the std puppets skit. and 'wrap it up, yo' box, i wish i had that in all my damned meetings i hav to sleep thru. i actually recommended we get it. us navy w the wrap it up yo box lol
The shows that I devotedly tape/watch are:
Lost (love it!)
Prison Break
Rome (though I'm tiring of it)
Masterpiece Theatre / Mystery! (whichever series is airing)

Then if I'm home and just want to watch something, I'll watch:
CSI
Law & Order
Without a Trace
Veronica Mars (am watching the excellent 1st Season on DVD)

I really can't keep up with too many. I feel like there are a lot more good shows than there used to be.
(is there a more current TV thread…recycling this one)

Cheat sheet for network shows, coming and going.

My comings and goings:
I think Scrubs has had it's time…and 24 clock should burn out.
"The Hills" is done and "The City" trumps.
I just got into "Damages" - I love it.
Waiting on Netflix to send "Tudors".
Also just started viewing "Burn Notice" - love it. Sea 1 & 2 will marathon before Sea 3 premiere in June.
"Mad Men" returns August…
New for me this season:  "The Fashion Show" - eh jury still out on that one…Project Runway is probably better.
Top Chef returns in summer too.

Shows I watch/dvr regularly:
Rescue Me (Denis Leary in anything really)
Burn Notice
Lost
and Skins (through netflix - although next season i expect to watch on bbc)
Damages

and of course, hockey!

on dvd: the job, veronica mars and freaks & geeks I cant live without!
i like watching people screw each other on my tv.
My Name Is Earl got canceled today by NBC  :'(  Rumour is that Fox might pick it up  8)
Oh, I almost forgot to mention:
I adore 30 Rock.
Rescue Me is still good.
I had a taping conflict w/ HIMYM but plan to catch up over the summer, as I will w/House.
I got a couple of people at work into "Lie to Me". The acting by the co-stars (or is it the writing?) is a little hokey but I like the local setting and dig Tim Roth. (Plus, I'm getting very good at "micro-facial expression determination";))
I did like "Samantha Who?" and it's gone.
Earl has slipped on my list & I take it for granted b/c it's still solid - hopefully Fox will pick it up.
thanks for the Skins recommend.
Why haven't we had a LOST thread, strictly for LOST?

Did we have to wait until Season 5 was over or WHAT?!
