this really sucks.
spoon cancels so they can play with the shins at merriwe
What?!?!?
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
source?
the tix are still up on tickets.com.
the tix are still up on tickets.com.
I am really fucking pissed off at this (if this is true).
Why would they turn down two nights that they KNOW would sell out, with two full hour and a half sets they can play, and really cater to an audience that is all their own, to go and play a 40-minute set opening for some Shins.
<img src="http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c160/FromTheAltarboyInn/chacha2.jpg" alt=" - " />
FUCK. THIS.
(Unless this means…they're opening for The Shins, then driving to DC and playing an 11:00 late set on both days…which I doubt.)

Those of us obsessive fans who bought tickets early received the following email this evening:
"Spoon has agreed to play on The Shins bill at Merriweather Post Pavilion on October 22, so the 9:30 Club shows have been cancelled.
Because you showed your allegiance by buying your tickets so early, they want to treat you right - you have some choices here:
1 - trade in your ticket for a GA Pit or Reserved pavilion ticket (a
$45 value), for only ten more dollars. You can do it in advance thru the 9:30 Club or Merriweather box office.
2 - present your ticket to Merriweather on October 22 for a lawn seat (a $30) value) - no exchange or extra effort necessary.
3 - Ask for a refund.
Think about what you'd like to do, and well get back to you Monday with more details about how to proceed. Just know that we've got seats and pit spots held for you!"
Poorly played, Britt, poorly played.

wow
wow. that's fairly shittastic.
This is really a shame… Thought they were pretty good at virgin and they still left out at least five of their best songs in an abbreviated set where Britt did not even play guitar for some songs…geez, one of these would have easily been one of the best shows of the year (my opinion of course)… Screw fearing the underdog!!
Super lame.
What's with this recent trend? Liars recently cancelled a black cat show so that they could open for interpol and now this. Guess I'll see both Carlos Giffoni and Damo Suzuki now.

I quit HFStival.com where I was the most important poster to be a relative "opening act" here, so really, they're all just following my example.

i'd be curious to find out how many people upgrade their spoon tickets to see this gig at merriweather.
pros:
i get to see spoon
cons:
driving to merriweather.
driving to merriweather on a monday.
seeing spoon play for (probably) an hour - they just have too many good songs, that's not enough time.
seeing the shins and their boring ass stage presence try to captivate a big crowd.
i'll pass. maybe spoon will play a proper headlining gig in dc after they finish the fall tour.

I'm not too fond of the Spoon live show nowadays and not a fan of the Shins live either.
Fucking ridiculous.
(At least there's a GA pit.) BUT still…

It really costs $45 to see the shins now? That is funny in and of itself.
What are the Ponys doing?
wow - as a ticket holder i am glad for the refund.
But on a separate note -thanks Spoon - really, that's great - I don't even have a car - FUCK YOU - ASSHOLES

Shittastic. I already made the mistake of paying to see the Shins once this year. Won't make the mistake of doing so twice, Spoon or no Spoon.
also - the sneakiness of sending out this email late on a Friday should not be overlooked. What a let down on so many levels
