Generally speaking, if you are gonna play a small hole in the wall venue, you are going to do it in your home town. He could have played at a lot of venues given his stature, assuming it wasn't a timing issue, but he instead played at the Hut. Whoever you saw from Detroit were juts looking for a gig, and that was the best they could do.
