I personally would love to hear the Empty Page, Mote, Schizophrenia, and Bull in the Heather. Decent setlists, pretty standard for Sonic Youth. A bunch of new songs with some older ones thrown in.
Roll Call: Sonic Youth
i definitely want to hear some new stuff. Pattern Recognition is my fav. from the new disc.
Teenage Riot and Drunken Butterfly are favourites. I still havent heard them play 100% yet.
also i would like to hear:
Wildflower Soul
Silver Rocket
Androgynous Mind
My Friend Goo
those would make me happy please. :)

I had planned on going but now can't. Luckily, I am going to shows tomorrow and Friday to make up for it.
If anyone wants to buy my ticket, send me a PM.

Wildflower Soulnone of these songs will be played. judging from the setlists so far this year, they are typical and a bit too predictable for me (though this is because i've seen SY about 15 times). they'll play about six new songs, two from murray street, and a handful of popular older ones like "100%", "bull in the heather", and "schizophrenia". there's usually one or two surprises thrown in.
Silver Rocket
Androgynous Mind
My Friend Goo
i will be there, and NOT working. i never miss a sonic youth show, unless it's $40 and at DAR.
for those of you curious about the magik markers, they epitomize amateur no-wave. i saw them last year with subarachnoid space in baltimore, and they were almost unbearably lacking in playing skills. that's saying a lot coming from me, as i listen to some of the most abrasive, atonal shit out there. the markers have a lot of heart, though, and they're fun to watch, but don't expect to hear "songs". it's mostly a whole lot of shrieking and flailing away. i doubt i'll be able to get there on time to see the audience boo them.

I still can't decide if it was a great show or merely a good one. It seems like whenever I see Sonic Youth I get something a little different each time. Here was the setlist:
I Love You Golden Blue
Stones
Pattern Recognition (excellent)
Unmade Bed
Eric's Trip
Mariah Carey
Burning Spear
New Hampshire
Paper Cup Exit
Schizophrenia
Dude Ranch Nurse
Drunken Butterfly
——————
Rain on Tin
Pacific Coast Highway
——————
set list says Make the Nature Scene, but I thought that Expressway to Yr Skull.
All in all, it was good to see them again, seemed like the band was having a pretty good time and were in good spirits. Nothing will ever compare to the time I saw them in early July 2002 though.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I thought the lights behind the stage were way cool, and Thurston still acts like he's 25.
The song choice was the only so so part. Pattern Recognition and Sister were highlights, and the first encore song was incredible, minus the Kim Gordon trumpet.
I did manage to come to one large Sonic conclusion last night. I like the songs that Lee sings the best.

I enjoyed the show as well, not the best I have seen them but not the worst.
Great show. Final encore was Expressway as bunny said.
Anyone know exactly what those video monitors were? Pretty cool.
Yeah, SY was acting pretty youthful last night. The results were good. Although Jim R. seemed pretty subdued compared to the rest of the band, almost like a hired hand.
Pattern Recognition: Wow!

Sailor Ripley – You're spot on about Jim O'Rourke. He looked really bored last night, embarassed even.
The video screens behind them were VERY cool. I haven't picked up their new album yet, shameful –I know, but the new stuff was great. I'm always up for Expressway and I've never heard PCH live before.

I musta been standing in the wrong spot cause I was having a hard time with the vocals. I thought they were being drowned out badly by the instruments. But even after that, I did enjoy listening to them. They have such a unique sound to them. I did however leave after an hour, it just wasn't my night, I was waaaaay too tired and didnt feel like standing anymore. Sonick, we missed you on the left side. What happened?

i so sorry ! :)
I was a bit tired and cranky myself last night. I was tempted to leave after an hour or so, but every time I was ready to go they'd drop into some mesmerizing noise-fest and I couldn't pull myself away. Good show. I need to pay more attention to them in the future.
I think I saw Rob and possibly chimbly (were you there?), but like I said, I was pretty cranky and just kept to myself most of the night. Had I seen sonick I would have yelled disparaging things about Muse, just to watch him get all riled-up. :D

I was more than happy with the set. Hearing the new songs live really cemented the album as a great one, especially Pattern Recognition. And man, the old songs were smoking. Thanks to Thirsty to pointed out that it was Burning Spear and Expressway to me; my noise-damaged ears couldn't place them right off the bat. And even though they played Eric's Trip and Drunken Butterfly pretty recently, I just can't get enough of those songs. BTW, Schizophrenia = AWESOME.
So any thoughts on the openers? Loved White Magic, and I'll be damned if the Magic Markers weren't great just for giving it their all. Like the girl said, you don't need chords to rock, just a lot of heart.

outside, as you were going in , but i was walking up and i didnt want to yell. would you have answered to a resounding "SKEEEEETERRRR"?
Ok, I must be lost with the names again, does Skeeter = Bombay Chutney? If so, then we were standing right next to each other at the bar ten mintues before SY came on.
