yeah, i'm a pirates fan, it's sad but true. this could be a blessing in disguise. sean burnett, john van benschoten, bobby bradley – they were all supposed to be saviors and all got seriously hurt. even ones that avoid arm trouble get smashed in the face w/a line drive (paul maholm). here's an under the radar pirates minor league hurler who will give the bucs three of the top lefty starters in the league by 2007: tom gorzelany. remember that name.

The Draft is set for Monday 9/12 at 6:30pm EST.
I wasnt sure whether to do Rotisserie or Points or Head To Head.
I did Rotisserie, but i can change that before the draft. So LMK if you'd rather do Points or HTH.
ok? See you at the Forum Shootout!

How long should this draft take? I have to leave around 7:15-ish.
Also, unless we're talking Chicken, I have no clue what rotissere is.

i'd imagine a couple hours. you can always prerank ahead of time and yahoo will pick the rest of your team
i have no idea how long that shit takes,
rotisserie chicken. nice.
i dont know what it means either, we usually just tabulate points throughout the whole year.
someone hopefully can explain rotisserie to us!
the draft shouldnt take THAT long, unless motherfuckers are slow as HELL. the top 5-10 picks are the most important, then just pre-rank the goons and figure it out later.

In our Rotisserie scoring system, each team will be ranked against the other 11 teams in 10 different categories. The team with the highest rank in a category will receive 12 points (based on the number of teams) for that category, the second best 11, and so on. The team with the lowest rank in a category will receive 1 point for that category. The sum of the points for each category will determine a team's score.

i prefer points or head to head, but rotisserie would be fine, if everyone prefers that.
I'll go along with the majority (which seems to be points).
More importantly - where are we watching the games on opening night? There are so many games worth seeing! I was thinking of trekking out to Bugsys in Alexandria. It's about the only hockey bar I can think of.

G (10)
A (5)
+/- (2.5)
PIM (2)

SHP (7.5)
W (10)

those goalie points are totally fucked up. losing a 1-0 game kills you, while winning a 6-5 game helps you. there should be some middle ground.
Originally posted by sonickteam4:i assume he's referring to a "rotisserie" system, where people are ranked in the categories and (in a 10 team league) get 10 points for having the most goals and 1 point for having the least goals, same for all the stat cat's

IMHO, the pure points system is better because you can assign different point values for different stat categories … in rotisserie, every stat category is equally valuable
but i'm not playing in this league, so feel free to ignore me
Originally posted by BookerT:and it also basically places all the points on whether the team wins or loses … so unless you have negative points for goals allowed and positive points for saves, you're basically just drafting teams when it comes to goalies … it's like only counting Ws and Ls in baseball and not including a pitcher's ERA or WHIP

what the hell, i'll play, but i'll have to autodraft
Originally posted by BookerT:lemme check, but in a points league, you cannot assign points for a save percentage or goal allowed average.

what suggestions can we make for the goalie stats?
other than wins, losses and shutouts, the only other categories are:
games started: which is just lame
goals against: which could work
shots against: this isnt really reflective of the goalie at all is it??
saves: this COULD work but then really you're goalie just needs to play. i had this as a category a couple years back and it put too much emphasis on the goalie. other players didnt even seem to matter much.
suggestions?
I'd leave the goalie stats the way they are, like you said, tweaking a few of those will make the goalies the entire thing. I'd rather the goalies be undervalued ([wins-losses]*10) then the alternative.
