Well starting in reverse, reverse order #1, a clear winner is

The only ones, another girl another planet

Somewhere is Birthday by the sugarcubes

and

Shipbuilding by Robert Wyatt, written by Elvis Costello.

those three never seem to appear on American lists…. The second two oft appear on NME lists though, along with the cocteau twins first single.

Right now Cinerama: health and efficiency is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. I cannot recommend that show highly enough.
did you hear the flip side of birthday, same song with the jesus and mary chain and called christmas, i prefer it because im fond of great scottish things……..

#176 – wedged between Pearl Jam and the Butthole Surfers.
Well I have that as a Japanese CD…..

1 Christmas eve
2 Christmas day
3 Christmas present
4 petrol (live)

inside it gives special thanks to Jim and William Reid…. I had never payed attention to that being the marychain before, cheers Bungle.

And GGW I already made a concession that the last two songs were not that obscure….. The first one appears to be annd it is a fantastic song…..

Back (way back) in the day, when HFS was a good radio station, Another Girl used to get a fair amount of spins.

Weasel is on 94.7 now. Perhaps you could request it.

Now its Television: Adventure.

I finally broke Marquee Moon time to try the second album. Its not as good as marquee moon though.
Listening to Marquee Moon, is it the longest 8 track album ever?

I love that song! Use to play it all time back around 1980. Along with some Robert Wyatt and Matching Mole….among lots of others, both on and off lists.
I had not heard another girl another planet till one of my friends got it on a punk compilation when I was 20…..

So its cool you got to hear it on the radio.

As for Marquee Moon, well if it is the longest 8 song album its probably also the finest….

I'm not too sure about the radio play but wouldn't be surprised to find out that they played it. HFS was actually cool back then but I never bothered with them until WGTB was forced off the air in January of either '80 or '81.

I too found the song on a compilation album that I had then. Wonder if it is the same one?
I think it was this:

Sounds familiar, it was a not very punk compilation….

although I think it had the members sound of the suburbs on, which is a cracking pop song.

Oh and now I am listening to New Order: movement.

I always find new order albums hard work.

Hummmm…..not too sure about that. Can't find mine online. It's possible that that is the same one but reissued or just a different cover. Keep in mind, back then, no one had even ever heard of The Cure, let alone most of the others on the album. I don't remember The Ramones being on it though but I haven't listened to it for years and am not too sure.
Just listened to Another Girl Another Planet, is it just me or does it sound like it could be off an Ash album
There are probably 1000's of punk compilation CDs out there… I have never bought one, but I have enjoyed listening to other peoples.

talking of punk…..

Now I am listening to: New York Dolls

how it influenced Morrissey is way beyond me.
