What Are You Listening To Right Now?

Only 1977, I think girl from mars owes it a debt. Still there was about 15 years between the two songs.

Where did you listen to it Jadetree?

What an interesting way of getting music. I wish I had thought of that.

I'm not too sure about the radio play but wouldn't be surprised to find out that they played it. HFS was actually cool back then but I never bothered with them until WGTB was forced off the air in January of either '80 or '81.

I too found the song on a compilation album that I had then. Wonder if it is the same one?

It was much later than '81 that they played it on HFS. I think it was a favorite of Weasel's.

Maybe so. Was never a big HFS fan but did listen. There were so many good stations in the area at the time. Boy, do I miss those days!

By looking at the list on your link, I now recognize the title of my album:

Permanent Wave: Collection of Tomorrow's Favorites by Today [77]

The year sounds much closer too. I was thinking that it was the late 70s but wasn't sure. I think mine was a promo that was given to me at the time. The album is half good. One of those that I would skip around on, and I rarely do that.
Well I thought that it had appeared on a lot more compilations than that….. But the power of GGW and allmusic has won once again.

I thought that is what compilations were for….

A good way of getting a good copy of songs by bands that only had a couple of good songs…. (handy before the download age)

Steve harley the cockney rebel's come up and see me (make me smile) is a good example. Incidentally the wedding present did a fantastic cover of that song. The lead singer of the Wedding Present is going to be intown soon with his current band, CINERAMA.

Why dont we all go?

Who?

I figured you for the London Punkharmonic version, I bet it took somebody many long seconds of deliberation before they came up with that name.

I still say "Methamphetafunk" is the best band name ever.

Greg Kihn – The Pride of Charm City……

We had broken up for good just an hour before,
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
And now I'm staring at the bodies as they're dancing 'cross the floor.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
And then the band slowed the tempo, and the music gets you down.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
It was the same old song, with a melancholy sound.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
I still have not gone to allmusic, but the song GGW just posted was funny enough……

Slobberbone vs Cinerama….

I band I know almost nothing of, or one thats main mamber I have seen five times live already and own almost all of his albums…… let me think about that one.
Greg Khin had sort of a Ryan Adams sound but no good stories. Even lamer, actually. Ryan rocks more. He tended to play to the dull yuppie set who thought they were hip but wouldn't know hip if smoothered in it. He was much more popular in DC than in Baltimore. In fact, I don't even remember him ever playing any dates in Baltimore. I'm sure there were a few but we never heard of him playing the circut….thank God!

We'd been living together for a million years,
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
But now it feels so strange out of the atmospheres.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
And then the jukebox plays a song I used to know.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
And now I'm staring at the bodies as they're dancing so slow.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.

They don't write 'em like that anymore.
They don't write 'em like that anymore.

Mmmm, now ?
I wind up staring at an empty glass
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
Cause it's so easy to say that you'll forget your past.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.

They don't write 'em like that anymore.
No, they just don't write 'em like that anymore.
Oh, they don't write 'em like that anymore.
They just don't write 'em like that anymore.
They just don't, no they don't, no no, uh-uh,
They just don't write 'em like that anymore.
They just don't…(fades)

I was joking, but you make a good point, you have had enough of Gedge, time to see something else.
The only thing that gave away the fact that he might be a bit dodgy was the album titles series of puns…..

Citizen Kihn indeed.
