I was at class and missed all but the last three songs from the Fake Accents. The first two I heard confirmed the "Pavement" comparisons. The last song was fantastic.
Hoodoo Gurus Roll Call
What? I can't quite hear you. Still ringing LOUDLY in my ears.
I was a little sad about the sparse crowd, but thought the show was great The vocals sounded muddy, but I loved the setlist. I was hoping for "Dig It Up", but "What's My Scene" made me smile.

Yeah, Dig it Up, Kamikaze Pilot and Death Ship would have been great to hear.
Bearman…next time I spot you i'll come up and say hi.

Yep Chaz, guilty as charged :) Sadly they didn't comply, but I had a great time. I would agree with ggw, I give the show an A-. I would have loved to hear a few more songs, but in the grand scheme of things it was a very solid show and I'm so glad that I finally got to see them after liking them for a good 20 years.
I figure I'll be the first to post a setlist, since there were a few of us that got one ;)
I Want You Back

(not sure the last 2 songs…anyone know?)
I'm going B+ – an A- is really, really great.
The Fake Accents were so horribly loud I couldn't stay in the room longer than a half a song. It may be telling that I'm not a Pavement fan either, but I didn't like them even a teeny bit.
Hoodoos were great; it really was like a Monday night show though, and while the crowd was really in to it, the crowd was sparse. I saw them in Austin and I have to say, several beers should be obligatory for a Gurus show, but I couldn't do it.
I was hoping for a bit longer set list as well, but the set opener of "I Want You Back" and closer "Like Wow…Wipeout" was phenomenal.
Had a great time, and glad I had time to catch up a bit with Chutney and Bearman afterwards.
Now, that "Form a Circle" song…I really liked it with the different vocal style of Brad Sheppard. But, uh, what's the story on the circle?? ;)

Originally posted by Bags:thanks bags. will post tomorrow (or later tonight) about the nyc show. so theyre playing at bb kings here and ive heard nightmare things. i hate times sq anyway, but fortunately its convenient to where i live. it also means drinks should be extremely expensive. double damn! :( theyre coming on at 9 tonight according to the venue, so it could be an early night. and ive made sure ive got my earplugs after reading about the loudness.

no i want you back. i could cry. but lets go on.
so this is rather surreal - there was an opener - something like the elms opening. or so it was. and then instead the gurus came out and played 5 songs. and they said - ok that's it for the show. and everyone was confused. then they said - ok thats the early crowd's show. i recall 'good times' (if thats the name of it?), being played. but now that i think of that name, i am sure thats not what its called. ok maybe someone knows of a song that has that line?
so that was the beginning. at 9pm prompt they came on. and around 6, that is when it became 'audience request time'. i guess they always play bb kings, so its a reunion to be back here. anyway - so after 'come anytime' - there were a bunch of shoutouts - and 2 songs later they went back to the set. so im sure this isnt entirely correct.
and btw - for anyone interested. they are playing maxwells on sunday night.
all in all great show. lots of great songs and they truly had a great time. the bassist kept smiling at me, so it made my night. and the sound was not so good. if i didnt know 'come anytime' - i swear id have not recognized it. oh and they ended with a friend of theirs coming up and playing a song they rehearsed (apparently incorrectly) :)
(lets all) turn on

death-defying (apparently dave's fav song that he ever wrote).
for the ladies (which they were not going to play because they played it last time at bb kings)

and yeah 'good times' was the song i was thinking of. i didnt realize, but i know so many of their songs. i forgot they had so many popular songs, or maybe it means radio was good then?

Originally posted by sweetcell:that wasnt quite what i meant. they have a ton of popular songs, and most i recognized - just from having used to listen to them all the time. my point i guess was that it was a hugely popular song, and its one of those songs most fans know, but since it was a song i had loved, i recognized the song (sans vocals). obviously if i had never heard of it, id have no clue what it was.

their sound was pretty bad (for vocals) is more or less the point and it was a good thing i was *very* familiar with a chunk of their songs. ironic - their sound was better as an opener.
Anyone want to be my date to the upcoming Hoodoo Guru's show on May 8th?
I nominate sidehatch….that is …if he is still alive
Been waiting on this one for a couple years now. Can't wait!
I was Kosmo's date to a Pearl Jam show a while back. He is a good time.
Quick clarifying question: who or what are the Hoodoo Gurus?
Amazing Aussie band who having been rocking since the 80s.. catch ditties abound including this one
