The O's

I know it's early, but this was the talk even before the season began. The Orioles may have some trouble in their pitching rotation, but they can create some serious offense.
In their first two games they have 25 runs on 30 hits, those are pretty monster numbers. Granted these two games have been against the Devil Rays, but those are gaudy numbers regardless.
Look at the hitters we have on this team: Tejada and Roberts were both all stars last season. Mora and Lopez are coming back from injury plagued seasons. Millar is a former batting champion. Hernandez is batting 1000 on the season so far. Gibbons can get hot and has power. Markakis is a very promising rookie. This is the deepest batting order we've seen on the O's in a very long time.
Tonight our new pitcher Chris Benson takes the mound so it should be interesting to see what we paid for.
I think it could be a fun year in baseball.

I think everyone thought it would be a fun season after ther first two games of last season also. They should be able to hit in that ballpark, it's a very friendly hitting place to play home games at.

Also, Millar is not the same person as he was when he won the batting title, which I vaguely remember, I thought it was Muellar who won it, I could be wrong and probably am. I do think Bedard is the real deal though, not sure about Cabrera and Lopez, such potential, but nothing comes out of it.

no offense, but it's april, and fans of every single team in the league (ok, maybe not the cubs) could write a paragraph like that about their team … hell, the nats looked fantastic in innings 9 and 10 last night, fun game to watch (thanks directv!)

Kevin Millar never won the batting title. It was Bill Mueller.
That douchebag Angelos is really pissing me off. Just give Melvin the 27 million he wants over three years. He's earned it.

yeah, give the injury-prone 34 year old whose OPS dropped 160 points last year a three-year deal. super solid player, but he's likely to drop off a whole lot over the next few years.

But he's far outperformed his current contract salary. Both with his stats and leadership and community service. Throw in the extra three million as a reward. Christ, the guy has quintuplets to take care of. I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

I tend to agree with the owners when it comes to money, I mean, they offered hime $24 million, if it's always "not about the money" why can't the little baby just sign the damn thing. If you can't live off $24 million, there's something seriously wrong with you. In any other ballpark except for maybe Texas, Colorado, Houston and Philly, he's an average player. Put him in a Dodger or Mariner uniform and let's see how good he is. [/QB]

How injury prone is he? He's played 140+ games in three of the last four seasons.

well he's never played 150+ games and it's not like you can expect him to improve on that as he enters his twilight years. don't get me wrong, i like mora a lot. just one of those guys that was underrated for a long time and now i think he's about to become overrated. there's just no way you can realistically expect him to repeat his 2003 and 2004 performances. and teams get in financial trouble when they reward past performance instead of looking ahead to the future (jeff bagwell, anyone?).

Well, you're not going to play Tampa every night.
I'd hold off until after you face the Sox this weekend to give a fair assessment of this years squad.
