Yes, they are a guaranteed good time. If only it wasn't the same night as Ambulance…

I for one found religion last night. But that was more about the beer than it was about the show. Or maybe not.
I did dance embarassingly enough and make enough silly hands-to-the-sky motions to embarass away my friends, though.
Snailhook, good seeing you again.

Last night was my first time. Hell - I hadn't even heard a single song before and just went on strong recommendations from friends.
I was in a FOUL mood when I walked in but within 30 seconds of the band starting, I had this big s**t eating grin on my face. I thought I had been transported back to the Sgt Pepper recording sessions. The energy is infectious but it's the music that carried the day. It's well crafted and the arrangements are excellent. George Martin would have loved this band.
They might be in on the joke. They might be a bunch of freaks. But there's no doubt that The Spree put one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Consider me a convert.

incidentally, i was listening to 'sgt. pepper's' before heading out to the show.
my thoughts: i'm glad i went. great show, great energy. the suncentric lyrics were a little over the top, but then again, there's 24 robed people onstage. musically, it was another one of those "U" shaped shows. amazing opening two song sequence, middle songs sagged a bit, then the ending was great (was that a bowie cover they did?). they reminded me a lot of sun ra arkestra (which i wasn't expecting…i was thinking it was gonna be more like flaming lips w/ choir). speaking of, they should do a collaboration w/ flaming lips.
like "hey!..it's the sun!"
then down comes a giant, bright yellow plastic bubble from the roof…with wayne coyne inside.
oh yeah, i fell in love w/ the orange-robed girl in the choir.

they use to do 5 years all the time and it was fantastic. The show was amazing.
But, did anyone notice that there were THREE cars with smashed in windows on that street that runs next to the club with all the meters and the warehouse looking thing? Granted, I guess we could trade in a drink for safe parking, but I imagine that this is no an unusual thing to happen. I had a window smashed in at Nation once, but never at 930 club. How often does this happen and shouldn't something (i don't know what…) be done to minimize things like this this?

What Bowie song could they have possibly covered without murdering it? The Laughing Gnome?
Memory of a Free Festival from Space Oddity, but just the ending part. They pretty much mowed us down with it, and in a good way. I was hoping they would have played Five Years again, oh well. Great show!

Now hang on just a minute…..this "I'm so happy, oh so happy, oh so happy and happy and gay" band covered a song about dying in five years???? WTF?
yeah good point, but even Bowie said that it's one of the best performances of the song he's ever heard.
