Who remembers the Dream Syndicate

Anybody…anybody?

Do you remember the laughter?
Q: Do you perceive any lack of success in your career, any frustration that the Dream Syndicate didn't play Live Aid and go on to mega-stardom?

SW: That's the question I get asked the most these days and it's funny because I have no frustration, I don't perceive any kind of lack of success. First and foremost it's a really good life. I make records when I want, any way that I want to make them, with people I want to work with and then I go out and tour them wherever I want to tour in the way I want to. When I started doing this I had three dreams. I remember even talking about it with Kendra and people in the Dream Syndicate and saying it would be amazing to be able to make a record when you want, to tour whenever you want and do it for a living and we were talking about it as if it was some kind of impossible thing. To us that was equal to riding in limousines and selling out Wembley. To us that was impossible and I've been doing it now for 20 years. I know where that question comes from and there are times when people ask it and I get very annoyed. I don't think about it. I only think if I sold more records I could pay my band more. The little things.
I love the Dream Syndicate. I actually just bought the "Days of Wine and Roses" CD recently, to replaced the cassette that snapped after many, many years.

The all-new Doomlink!
Saw them back in the day at the old 930. Days of Wine and Roses is a fantastic album.
Sparx, we were probably both at that show…
Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3 was easily in my top 5 performances seen at SXSW last year, although I only saw 'em play 3 songs at the Hole in The Wall, a less than stellar venue. They rocked harder in that 15 minute set than some bands do in a lifetime.
If I didn't have plans to be out of town on 2/17 I'd be at Jammin' Java to see them, no doubt about it.
It shall be fun.
It shall be done.

2/17 Steve Wynn at Jammin Java.

And me!
i've never heard of them. anyone remember when i used to love avenged sevenfold and saw them at the 930 club 2+ years ago opening for 4 other bands. i remember meeting all of them that day. now they sold the place out.
I'm super jealous. Enjoy yourselves.
Dream Syndicate was the fucking loudest band ever. Good times.

Not sure if they played there more than once or not.It was definitely a very very good time. I also caught early REM, I believe right after Chronic Town or maybe during Murmur at the old club as well. Both shows definitely impressed me at that point in my life. I never saw DS again but did see REM a few times in package shows but was nothing like them early on at F street, somewhat dissapointing actually. Then Gibby started coming to town and all hell broke loose :D

Did you ever catch Sugar at the old club? Deafening but amazing all the same.

Did you catch REM when they played at the Ontario Theater in 1983? My band was playing its first show at the 9:30 club that night, and my sister went to see REM instead of us. I was pissed at her for that, but later on I thought about it and realized I would've done the same thing!

The only shows I remember seeing around that time at the Ontario were PIL, Cure,New Order and The Furs. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few but that's along time ago for this memory at the moment. It was and still is a long drive for me, 150 miles each way,but for those shows at that venue at the time was more than worth it. Alot of goods shows were at Ritchie Coliseum near that time frame as well.
I think the loudest show I ever saw at the old club was THUD and Helmet. My eyes still twitch when I think about it.

This Steve Wynn show will be cool. How many times do you get to play with a guy that opened for U2?

I like the new disc…some "Syndicate" type sounds and some mellow numbers….Miracle 3 are a pretty good group of musicians and they really compliment Wynn….all in all a bargain at the sale price of $9.99………I'm sure it will sound very good live at Java…the acoustics and sight lines in that place blow the IOTA outta the water!…….
You think? I can see the sightlines argument but I like the sound in both. Opinions vary but mostly I hope that I look snazzy in either venue. It's all about the lighting!
