the two are touring together. dc is the only town where they are playing seperate venues. is this a weird pairng for a tour? how come hd are not playing with nc in dc?
neko case and high dials
It is kind of a bugger…
Why fret? Martha Wainwright should be good.
just saw them tonight in philly. fantastic show. martha played a good set and was well received. neko said she was sick but played for a good hour and a half with plenty of older tunes. after reading the mojo article last year, i was searching for some crazy-ass control freak tendencies in neko, but she seemed cool. except when she threatened to kill the sound man over the reverb.
And if you still want to see the High Dials, you should run over to DC9 and catch them after Neko, looks like you will have time, as they won't go on till close to 11:30.

I have to ask. Why start a show at 11:30 on a Sunday night? Doesn't anybody have real jobs?

And most headlienrs at the cat play for more than an hour, where as DC9 bands are done in an hour. I imagine the High Dials might go over that though. But I'm also hoping for a late night Neko appearance.

I can see your point, and I have to be at work at 8:30 tomorrow. But I also live 10 minutes away. If people like that music I'm sure they won't see it as a big sacrifice.
well 11:30pm on a sunday means that it's impossible for anyone wanting to get to an from the show on metro and see much of the high dials set. finding parking in the area after 9pm will be tight due to a soldout 9:30 club show.. both reasons to consider when trying to attend this show… that and having to be a work at 7am.
when do the positions go on… their website says 8:30 which i'm assuming actually means when doors open?
there are plenty of jobs out there. how often can you see neko case at the 930 and then walk one block and see the high dials? that in itself is worth quiting your current job and finding a new one.
switching jobs over a rock show will never be an option for moi…

Originally posted by Bombay Chutney:My point was, they end at about the same time the headlining band at the Black Cat would. So it doesn't save you any time. In all likleyhood the HGs will be starting before 11:30 anyway.

This show should be very much on time actually, assuming the High Dials get here from New York ok.
And the order of the the first two bands is up in the air a bit, but the first band should be on by 9pm, and the second by 10ish. Canadian Invasion is the other band involved.
Originally posted by evilsanta:Either 9 or 10, depending. The bill was altered a bit this week, and we're not sure where the Postions or Canadian Invasion will end up playing.

OK, enough about the High Dials. How about Neko?!
I have one word for you: Jawdropping. As in, "The Neko Case concert was jawdroppingly good." I literally could not believe my ears how good it was. Really, it was one of the best shows I've seen at the 9:30 Club. Period. I've seen Neko perform with the New Pornographers and I have "Fox Confessor" and "The Tigers Have Spoken," but neither of those albums nor anything she's done with the New Pornos prepared me for how amazing Neko Case is solo and in person. I can't tell you how pleased I am that NPR recorded it and that I can download it for posterity's sake. I'm just crossing my fingers that the sound quality of the NPR recording does the show justice. Tonight's sound engineer should give a clinic or something, because this was one of the best sounding concerts at the 9:30 Club in a while. My hat's off to the DJ as well, who played some really good stuff in between the Martha Wainwright set and the Neko Case set. Speaking of Martha, she was really good too, I thought.

Originally posted by anarchist:according to the high dial lads, neko is a big fan of the band and asked them personally to go on tour with her. they are sharing dates with Martha Wainwright and DC just happened to one of those shows. because they were passing through DC anyways, have friends in the area, and enjoying playing here so they struck out on their own. I'll bet that the fact that NPR was carrying the Neko show had alot to do with Martha doing that date with her..

The High Dials are one of those really great bands you want to keep to one's self along with the other 30 or so appreciative and enthusiastic fans last night. However, you could feel DC9 straining to contain the bands vast talent and tremendous sound. The High Dials should be playing to 900 more appreciative fans. In recent memory they were one of the few bands that left me wanting more after the set ended. I also would have liked a little more guitar and drums and less vocals. But that's a trade off for getting to seeing a band like the High Dials in a small club who can't afford to take a soundperson on tour. Someday they'll get to go tour with a proper sound person, not have to share their time with two other bands or stick to the mellow stuff for the sake of the artist they are supporting.
