The board is dead, long live the board.

NO! New members are always welcome and keeps the banter fresh. Markie and I can only throw insults at each other for so long. Which brings up the question, "When are Rhett and Celeste coming back?"

That's cool too. I'm just here getting good advice and news from other folks who listen to and love music as much as I. It's all good – new website or no! It's not easy keeping up with so much great new music, so I do what I can. Get a lot of good advice from the Boards, so thanks to everyone!
Bags …welcome to the board :)
bags, stick around a little longer and I am sure you will be part of the name calling…..

Its great to have new people around here to insult.

Q magazine though, are you sure your not a 35 year old guy with slippers and a pipe?

Markie, turning 30 has been really traumatic for you, hasn't it?

Actually, I'm not really a newbie, though I hardly count as a regular. But I've been a member since 2001 and probably have 100 posts under my belt. The new system erased my 'history,' though, and shot me back to "posting #1." I think I'll stick around – as you'll see in the next paragraph, I need to amass all the street cred I can get.

No, I'm not a 35 year old guy with slippers and a pipe, but a 35 year old chick with doc martens and Marlboro lights, so I guess you weren't all that far off. I am not into Q magazine, but have a friend who quotes it constantly. Just because it's English doesn't mean it's not a gossip rag!!

Speaking of, what music mags do you regulars rely on? I like Magnet, but am having a hard time finding good indie coverage.

yes, but Q is the last bastion of the middle aged sofa bound rock critic.

I will stick to the occsional foray into NME and internet radio for new music, cheers.

Very good choice! ;)

Don't give in! A lot of what we think about age is all in the mind anyway. (Too bad all of it isn't.)
well I havent noticed any difference yet…..Well I do more exercise so my gut has actually shrunk since this time last year.

And besides at least I will never be as old as Mankie.

Oh and Elvis Costello said reading about music is like dancing about architecture.

Its more interesting to see if reviewers confirm or trash your opinions about music and acts you are already familiar with, in my opinion.
I've often wondered why should anyone give a rats arse about what a "critic" thinks, wether it be music, book or movie. Isn't it only just a matter of opinion when we get down to "hey lads hey"
but sometimes reading a critics opinion helps firm up your opinion of something and often makes you think about music in a more critical way. Even if you completely agree/disagree with the critic.

I already bought an album on Ebay today. I try to resist buying more than that….. Cheers though.

"Writing" about music is like dancing about architecture.

and i don't think Elvis said it either… i think it was Brian Eno or possibly Patti Smith. Thirsty knows for sure.
Sounds like something that Eno would say.
one of the funniest comparisons I heard recently had nothing to do with music…..it was regarding the peoples republic of montgomery county and their plans to ban smoking in all bars and restaurants. An am radio station was having a phone in and the subject of smoking sections came up. Some caller made the comparison "Having a smoking section in a bar is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool" It tickled the hell out of me for some reason.
